    Alphonse V. “Al” Astrauskas, Jr., age 80, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital with his family by his side.

     

    He was born October 19, 1942 in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late Matilda, nee Waitukaitis, and Alphonse V. Astrauskas, Sr.

     

    In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his son, Steven Alan Astrauskas on May 9, 2004; son-in-law, John Eric Schmidt on February 21, 2005; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Margaret, nee Schaefer, Trame; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Yakubinis and Richard Trame.

     

    Al is survived by his wife, Judy, nee Trame, Astrauskas, of Lebanon, whom he married July 4, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon; children, Tamara Sue (Todd) Brennan of Lebanon and Julie (Dodd) McBride of McLeansville, NC; eight grandchildren, Samantha Astrauskas, Abigail (Cody) Zurliene, Holly (Michael) Christopher, Christian Schmidt, Conner Schmidt, Nikki Astrauskas, Elijah Nance, and Jadie Nance; siblings, Mary Yakubinis of Collinsville, Philip (Mary Ellen) Astrauskas of Collinsville, and Larry (Stephanie) Astrauskas of Troy; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn Trame of Lebanon and James (Linda) Trame of Lebanon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

     

    Al worked for Painters District Council 58 of the International Union Painters & Allied Trade Local 85 and Linder’s Custom Wallpaper & Painting in Mascoutah.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lebanon, retired member of Lebanon Emerald Mound Fire Department, Aviston Knights of Columbus Council 11110, former member of Lebanon Sportsman Club, Emerald Mound Grange, and charter member of Lebanon Jaycees since 1963.  Al began his painting career at the age of 16 with RC McCabe in Lebanon.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, collected antique John Deere tractors, and was known as “Al the Pumpkin Man”.

     

    Funeral Service will be Friday, February 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton with Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lebanon.

     

    Visitation will be Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Friday, February 3, 2023 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.
