Bertha C., nee Schrage, Kampwerth, age 94, of Breese, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Bertha was born February 7, 1925 in St. Rose, a daughter of the late Anton and Frances, nee Middeke, Schrage. She married Maurice Kampwerth April 27, 1954 at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose; he preceded her in death December 16, 2003.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Vincent Schrage, Casean Schrage, Andy Schrage, Edmund “EJ” Schrage, Clarence Schrage, Anthony “Tony” Schrage, and David Schrage; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rita Schrage, Francis Isert, Leo Kerkemeyer, Leonard and Dorothy Kampwerth, Fred Blum, and Evelyn Kampwerth.

Surviving are her children, Gerene (Mark) Gramlich of McKinney, TX, Sharon (Bill) Knuf of Highland, Kent (Nykiel) Kampwerth of O’Fallon, Judy Kampwerth of Troy, June (Wade) Timmermann of Maumelle, AR, and Jill (John) Boysha of Fairview Heights; grandchildren, Whitney (Kevin) Ahn, Kayla Knuf, Kyle (Lindsay) Kampwerth, Krystal (Rob) Meyer, Cody (fiancé Reagan Muse) Timmermann, Jesse Timmermann, Jacob Timmermann, Elise (Mike) Abernathy, Morgan Nittler, and Patrick Nittler; great-grandchildren, Kolton Kampwerth and Kynlie Kampwerth; sisters Marie Isert of Highland, Delores Graning of Humboldt, TN, Ruth (Clarence) Korte of Highland, and Florence (Dave) Luechtefeld of Okawville; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Florence Schrage of Highland, Joanne (Jerome) Rehkemper of St. Rose, Cecelia Schrage of Chatham, Peggy Schrage of Creve Coeur, MO, Alice Kerkemeyer of Collinsville, Dolores (Max) Giovannini of San Antonio, TX, and Sr. Annemarie Kampwerth, PHJC of Germany.

Bertha was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality and choir; St. Rose Development Club; and HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting; playing cards, bingo, and dominoes; listening to music and playing the harmonica; caring for her flowers and plants; and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding.

Visitation will be at Moss Funeral Home in Breese on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, plants, and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church or HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital-Breese and will be received at the funeral home.
