      Dale Eugene Newcomb, age 86, of Breese, died on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese, Illinois.

       

      Dale was born December 3, 1936 in Ashley, Illinois to the late Elmer and Frances (Tarr) Newcomb.  He married Sondra “Sandy” (Campbell) Newcomb on August 29, 1958 and she preceded him in death on May 14, 2018, three months before they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

       

      After graduating Ashley High School, Dale enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Korea from July 26, 1956 - July 2, 1958. Dale was a loyal member of Employer & Operating Engineers, Local 520 for over 64 years. He worked as an operator for Maclair Asphalt Company in Collinsville, IL until his retirement. After his retirement, Dale started a local grass cutting business and enjoyed cutting grass for Breese Township until he was 83 years old.  He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and went to all his grandkids sporting events when they were younger.

       

      He is survived by his four children, Vickie (Peter III) Ardison of Mt. Vernon, Cindy Brinkmann of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Brenda (Michael) Endres of Breese, Rick (Melissa) Newcomb of Florida; grandchildren, Jason (Joni Richeson Flanigan) Huels of Carlyle, Connor (Megan Mick) Endres of Chesterfield, MO, Jenna (Antonios Tsaousis) Endres of St. Louis, MO, Macey (Shane) Colonius of Shiloh, Ricky Newcomb, Jr. of Davenport, Iowa, Kelsey Newcomb of Greenville, Lilly McKinley of Florida; great-grandsons, Nathaniel Colonius and Easton Flanigan; sister Gerri Theiss of Centralia; sister-in-law and brother in-law, Terri and Jim Simon of Collinsville; along with several nieces and nephews.

       

      He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Laura Eileen Heffington; step-father in-law, Lacey Heffington; father-in-law, Thomas Campbell; step mother-in-law, Grace Campbell; sister, Maria (Larry) Bates; brothers-in-law, Norman Theiss and Kenneth (Wendy) Campbell; grandson, Ryan Michael Brinkmann; and nephew, Bruce Campbell.

       

      Private funeral services will be held at Moss Funeral Home in Breese, Illinois.

       

      Memorials in honor of Dale may be made to All Saints Academy and will be received by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
