      Daniel M. Hopcus, age 75, of Breese, died Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon.

       

      Mr. Hopcus was born August 10, 1942 in E. St. Louis, a son of the late Marion and Josephine, nee Kocol, Hopcus.

       

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Helen Hopcus; sister, Joanne Hopcus; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Helen, nee Plaza, Kicielinski; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Garcia and John Feiden.

       

      Surviving are his wife JoAnn, nee Kicielinski, Hopcus of Breese, whom he married September 7, 1964 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fairmont City; children, Tim Hopcus of Denver, CO and Vicki Hopcus of Breese; sisters, Gerry Garcia of St. Louis and Bernadine Feiden of Barnhart, MO; his loving dog, Maggie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

       

      Dan received his Degree in Education from Wichita State University and later retired as the Driver’s Education Teacher for both Central Community High School and Mater Dei Catholic High School. He was a former IHSA volleyball and softball official and was instrumental in starting the football programs at both Central and Mater Dei. Mr. Hopcus enjoyed golfing and having his morning coffee at Bent Oak Golf Course in Breese, woodworking, playing bocce ball in Highland and Grantfork, and his house was famous for many years as having the most unbelievable outdoor Christmas display around.

       

      He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, Breese Optimist Club, Wednesday morning Senior golf league at Bent Oak, and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

       

      Celebration of life will be Friday, August 10, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Bent Oak Golf Course in Breese.

       

      In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be received at Moss Funeral Home who is serving the Hopcus family.
