Dennis L. Schumacher, age 70, of St. Rose, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon.

He was born December 30, 1954, in Highland, the son of the late Gervase “Gerp” and Norma (Buske) Schumacher. On August 13, 1976, he married Deb (Ribbing) Schumacher at St. Rose Catholic Church, and she survives in St. Rose.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by his sons, Nick Schumacher of Highland and Tim (Kelly) Schumacher of Aviston; grandchildren, Jared Schumacher and Collins and Kaidyn Schumacher; siblings, Gerald “Chip” Schumacher of Breese, Debbie (Jim) David of Macon, GA, Steve (Angie) Schumacher of Trenton, Laura (Glen) Owens of St. Louis, MO, and Brenda (Steve) Lange of Manchester, MO; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kate (John) Kohlbrecher of St. Rose, Rose (Tony) Rensing of St. Rose, Rick (Sue) Ribbing of Germantown, and Jean (Mike) Nieken of Aviston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James “Jim” Schumacher; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Mary (Rosen) Ribbing; and brothers-in-law, Mike Ribbing and Augie Barth.

Dennis retired after more than 40 years as a carpenter with Alberternst Construction. A devoted member of St. Rose Catholic Church, he served as an usher, was active with the St. Rose Development Club, and was a retired member and past-president of the St. Rose Fire Department and Fire District.

Dennis had a gift for working with his hands and enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He loved watching NASCAR and the St. Louis Cardinals, cooking and barbecuing, and making breakfast for his wife every morning. Above all, he treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to attend their school activities and sporting events.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding.  Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese and again on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to his grandchildren’s education fund (checks payable to Deb Schumacher) and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
