Doris Jean Pratt

Doris J. Pratt, 91, of Breese, formerly of New Baden, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 26, 1934, in Spring Valley, Illinois, the daughter of Myles R. and Florence (Baum) Hassler, who preceded her in death. On July 27, 1952, Doris married Paul E. Pratt at DePue Congregational Church in DePue, Illinois and he preceded her in death January 15, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Merle Hassler; sister, Pearl Owens; and in-laws Darrell Pratt, Cleo Pratt, Walter Owens, and Erna Rose Hassler.

Doris is survived by her son, Paul W. (Vicki) Pratt Sr. of Addieville, Illinois; her grandchildren, Paul W. (Kristin) Pratt Jr. and Elizabeth (Brannon) Claxton; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Pratt, Makenna Newton, and Mason Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Over the years, Doris worked at Scott Air Force Base in Civil Service and later in real estate in Belleville, Illinois. Dedicated to her faith and community, she served for many years as Treasurer of the New Baden Methodist Church and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Trenton. Doris also shared her love of music, singing with the Sweet Adelines for many years, bringing joy to many through song.

Doris will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and devotion to her family and faith.

In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia, Illinois.
