Dorothy Marie Johnson (nee Maue), age 100, of Breese, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. She was born April 15, 1924, in Breese, a daughter of the late Phillip and Anna C. (nee Robben) Maue.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Leland “Lee” Johnson, whom she married April 16, 1951, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese and who died July 11, 2007; grandson, Joshua Detmer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dosker (Hattie Brown) Johnson; and siblings, Leona (George) Dierkes, Edward “Eppie” (Clara) Maue, Alvin (Leona) Maue, Helen (Richard) Brant, and Clarence “Bud” (Marie) Maue.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Yulonda (Fred) Detmer and Robin (Donna) Johnson, both of Breese; grandchildren, Rhonda (Josh) Siegfried, Aaron (Kavitha) Detmer, Jacob (Chelsea) Johnson, Seth Johnson, Kristi (Han) Wu, Cole (Bridgett) Johnson, and Elaina Johnson; great-grandchildren, Noah and Chloe Siegfried, Arjun and Aneesh Detmer, Ameila, Leland, and Henry Johnson, Louis Wu, and Genevieve and Milo Johnson.
A homemaker and lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality, Dorothy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She cherished her family deeply, finding her greatest happiness in the time spent with them.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle presiding. Interment will follow at St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese. Please wear your favorite Christmas attire to celebrate Dorothy’s love for Christmas.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to an Education fund for Dorothy’s great-grandchildren (checks payable to Yulonda Detmer) and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
