Edwin B. “Ed” Albers, age 92, of Beckemeyer, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Cedarhurst of Breese surrounded by his family. He was born July 28, 1933, in Germantown, a son of the late John and Marie (nee Wobbe) Albers.
Ed married Genevieve Albers (nee Taphorn) on November 9, 1957, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2022. In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his daughter, Leah Albers; great-granddaughter, Kirsten Norris; siblings, Gregory “Doo” Albers, Rosie (Joseph “Fireball”) Kohrmann, Virgil (Bernice and Helen “Punkie”) Albers, and Aloysius “Ollie” Albers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Mary (nee Gasser) Taphorn; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill Winter, Joseph (Ann and Joan) Taphorn, Leo (Laurene) Taphorn, and Andrew Taphorn.
Ed is survived by his children, Stanley (Lavonne) Albers of Beckemeyer, Julie (Brian) Mollet of Port Orchard, WA, Doug (Stacey) Albers of Beckemeyer, and Kay Koehler of Beckemeyer; grandchildren, Rachele (Roy) Grayling, Adam (special friend, Jackie) Albers, Hollie Norris, Lesley (fiancé, Josh) Mollet, Adrienne (Alex) Thurber, Matthew Mollet, Ashley (Travis) Wiegmann, Justin (Stephanie) Albers, Katrina (Josh) Haar, and Nathan (Megan) Koehler; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Marie “Mert” Winter of Germantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Ed served from 1952–1956. He dedicated twenty-eight years to Scott Air Force Base as a firefighter, retiring as crew chief. He also co-owned Albers Fire Protection and Taphorn Orchard in Beckemeyer. Deeply rooted in his faith and community, Ed was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a past commander of Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227, and a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Beckemeyer Community Development Club, and the washer club.
Ed lived a full and joyful life. He enjoyed bowling, deer camp traditions, long drives down country back roads, and listening to music during happy hour at Cedarhurst. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Chuck Tuttle presiding and Deacon Jay Fowler assisting. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Parish and will be received at the visitation or by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
