    Elizabeth A. “Betty” Brueggemann, nee Wiegman, age 81, of Breese, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.

     

    She was born February 26, 1941 in Breese, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Eleanor, nee Tonnies, Wiegman.

     

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aloys “Al” Brueggemann, whom she married October 1, 1960 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso and who died March 15, 2014; grandson, Andrew James; brother, Gerard “Gerry” Wiegman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Louise, nee Wegman, Brueggemann; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Hummert, Joe Brueggemann, Clara Athmer, Bernard Brueggemann, Mary Rita Hilmes, and Mary Lou Bowman.

     

    Betty is survived by her children, Cathy James of Noblesville, IN, Brian (Cori) Brueggemann of Breese, Barry (Melinda) Brueggemann of Carmel, IN, and Kyle Brueggemann of Breese; grandchildren, Caitlyn James, Robert (Grace) James, Maggie Brueggemann, Anna (Kate) Freeman, Bennett Brueggemann, Evan Brueggemann, Elana Brueggemann, Grant Toennies, Mason Toennies, and Zander Brueggemann; siblings, Patricia Hummert of Breese, Marvin (Tina) Wiegman of Carlyle, and Allan (Maureen) Wiegman of Ferguson, MO; sisters-in-law, Maria “Ching” Wiegman of Carlyle and Blanche Brueggemann of Bartelso; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    Betty retired from First National Bank in Carlyle as a Trust Officer after a lifelong career.  She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary in Carlyle, Mater Dei Mothers and Friends, and former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle.  Betty’s interests included sewing, quilting, crafting with her beloved sister, cooking, bragging about her grandchildren, and watching sports.  She had a heart for animals and didn’t know a stranger; she loved visiting with her neighbors, friends, and acquaintances.

     

    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter presiding.  Interment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery in Bartelso.

     

    Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Friday, January 20, 2023 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

     

    Memorials may be made to Hannah’s Playground, All Saints Academy Building Project, Mater Dei Catholic High School, or in the form of Masses and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
