    Florence H. Arentsen, age 92, of Damiansville, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

     

    She was born July 25, 1929 in Damiansville, a daughter of the late Fred G. and Euphemia, nee Markus, Tonnies.

     

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Veronica, nee Stockmann, Tonnies; husband Vincent Arentsen, whom she married October 21, 1952 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville and who died August 20, 2010; daughter-in-law, Kelly Arentsen; siblings, Daniel Tonnies, Paul (Lorine) Tonnies, Fred (Gloria) Tonnies, Ralph (Florence) Tonnies, Virgil Tonnies, and Jerry Stockmann; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alphonse (Margaret) Olliges, Arnold (Dorothy) Arentsen, Frances Arentsen, Rev. Edwin F. Arentsen, Sr. Mary Damian, ASC, Rita (Al) Rakers, Otto (Helen) Arentsen, John Mullen, and Gary Dwyer.

     

    Florence is survived by her children, Marv (Sue) Arentsen of North Port, FL, Mary (Mike) Wagnitz of Chesterfield, MO, Jane (Mike) Strieker of Breese, Bob (Karen) Arentsen of Downers Grove, IL, Karen (Matt) Ratermann of Aviston, Judy (Nick) Husmann of Breese, Jerry (Anita) Arentsen of Damiansville, Diane (Duane) Ripperda of Germantown, Steve (Tina) Arentsen of Germantown, John (Jennifer) Arentsen of Germantown, Nancy (Brian) Mattson of Germantown, Donna (Alan) Brauer of Germantown, Ron (LeighAnn) Arentsen of Germantown, Gary (Julie) Arentsen of Damiansville, and Kevin (Sheri) Arentsen of Damiansville; 34 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and was anticipating the birth of two more; sisters, Vera Mullen of Vestal, NY and Elizabeth Dwyer of Rio Rancho, NM; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Tonnies of Mascoutah, Dee Tonnies of Highland, Helen Tonnies of Breese, and Julia Stockmann of Aviston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    Florence was a homemaker and a member of St. Damian Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Damiansville, and Mater Dei Mothers and Friends.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and spending time with her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

     

    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Fr. Steven Beaty and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer presiding.  Interment will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville.

     

    Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Damian Catholic Church, Mater Dei Catholic High School, or Residential Hospice and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
