Florence Irene Usselman, age 94, of Breese, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. She was born November 6, 1930, in Wade Township, a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Dolores (nee Pax) Hilmes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Usselman Sr. whom she married August 2, 1950, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer and who died June 25, 2018; siblings, Wilfrid (Charlotte) Hilmes, Sylvester (Juliana) Hilmes, Ferdinand Hilmes, Jerome Hilmes, and Gerald Hilmes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Wilhelmina, nee Deerhake, Usselman; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mar Hilmes, Wilford Pendergrass, Florence Usselman, Dorothy (Virgil) Buller, Evelyn (Joseph) Drees, Margaret Timmermann, Veronica (Don) Boehn, Maryann Usselman, Andrew “Bud” Usselman, and Thomas Ziegler.
Florence is survived by her children, Ronald Usselman of Chicago, Daretia (Andrew) Schuler of San Antonio, TX, Deborah Usselman of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Raymond A. Usselman Jr. of Highland, and Richard Usselman of Pacific, WA; grandchildren, Bryan (Chelessa) Usselman, Jessica (Steve) Vaicik, and Christopher Mank; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Luke Usselman and Elliana and Nolan Vaicik; siblings, Robert Hilmes of Beaver Prairie, Joseph (Dot) Hilmes of Beaver Prairie, and Alice Pendergrass of Breese; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan Hilmes of Carlyle, Geraldine Hilmes of Breese, Marilyn Hilmes of Carlyle, Nick Timmermann of St. Rose, and Irene Ziegler of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Florence was a homemaker and dedicated member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese. She was also a member of Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR).
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Chuck Tuttle presiding. Interment will follow at St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made in the form of Masses to either St. Augustine Parish or St. Anthony Parish and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
