  • Full Obituary

James N. “Jim” Gilomen, age 95, of Trenton, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.  He was born December 19, 1929, in Highland, a son of the late Benjamin and Irma, nee Lorenz, Gilomen.  Jim married Bernice, nee Dubach, Gilomen on May 6, 1950, at the E&R Church in Highland and she preceded him in death on February 1, 2020.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Joyce Gilomen; siblings, Eileen (Lester) Buske, Ray (Clara) Gilomen, Glen Gilomen, Harold (Sandy) Gilomen, and Carol (Harry) Kreutzberg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milton and Nora, nee Ammann, Dubach; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Gilomen, Jean (Fred) Vosholler, Carol (Leroy) Ruehrup, Rich Albrecht, and Lois Dubach (infancy).

Jim is survived by his children, Susan (Bob) Ottensmeier and Carl Gilomen all of Trenton; grandchildren, Kristen (Jeremy) Shubert, Amy (Brian) Haar, Laura (Garrett) Hogg, and Sara (Daniel) Dixon; great-grandchildren, Mason and Mallory Shubert, Bryce and Adalyn Haar, Liam and Parker Hogg, and David Dixon; brothers, Earl Gilomen and Floyd (Mary) Gilomen all of Highland; sisters-in-law, Ramona Gilomen of Highland and Mary Ann Albrecht of Staunton; and nieces and nephews.

Jim was a proud patriot who honorably served his country in the United States Army from January 1952 to October 1953. After his military service, he built a successful career in sales and delivery with Taystee Bread and later with Pepsi Corp.

Jim was a man of faith and community, dedicating himself to St. John United Church of Christ in Trenton. He was a loyal member of the Teamsters Local 50 in Swansea and served 53 years with the Trenton American Legion Post 778. He was also a current member of the Highland VFW Post 5694 and a former member of the Trenton VFW Post 7983.

Jim found great joy in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, gardening, or tending to his yard. He delighted in feeding and watching birds, playing cards, and making wine. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Jim never missed an opportunity to cheer for his favorite team. He and Bernice also spent many years as campground hosts and enjoyed winter trips with their camper to Mississippi and Texas.

Jim’s patriotism and love for his country were evident throughout his life, and one of his greatest honors was participating in the Honor Flight in August 2024—a moment he cherished deeply.
