    Jerome B. “Jerry” Ottensmeier, age 84, of St. Rose, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Breese Nursing Home. He was born October 4, 1940, in St. Rose, a son of the late Henry G. and Ida C. (nee Poettker) Ottensmeier.

     

    In addition to Jerry’s parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Henry Ottensmeier; brother, Richard Ottensmeier; sister, Judith “Judy” Huelsmann; brother-in-law, Dr. David L. Beato; niece, Ellen Modock; and nephew-in-law, Tom Mattli.

     

    Jerry is survived by his siblings, Jane Beato of Breese and Robert “Bob” Ottensmeier of St. Rose; brother-in-law, Clarence Huelsmann of St. Rose; nieces and nephews, Brenda (Steve) Von Hatten, Becky (Mike) Pollmann, Sr. Veronica Beato, Jay Modock, Dr. David (friend, Cindy) Beato, Christine Beato, Dan (Beth) Beato, Mary Mattli, and Andrew (Ngoc) Beato; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

     

    Jerry proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the reserves from 1960 to 1966. After his military service, he spent over 20 years working in the Union Laborers Local 100 in East St. Louis. He was a dedicated member of St. Rose Catholic Church, the Men’s Sodality, and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

     

    A true outdoorsman at heart, Jerry loved helping on the family farm and enjoyed hunting coyotes, squirrels, and rabbits. He cherished time spent with his friends and family and always found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

     

    Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Church in St. Rose with Fr. Patrick Peter presiding and Deacon Jay Fowler assisting. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.

     

    Visitation will be Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Rose Parish or St. Rose Cemetery and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
