    Kurt W. “Louie” Spies, age 58, of Trenton, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was born January 28, 1966, in Highland, a son of Trudy, nee Reinhart, Spies-Toennies, and the late Louis Carl Spies.

     

    In addition to his mother and step-father, Trudy and Adrian Toennies, of Trenton, Kurt is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Spies, nee Douthit, of Trenton, whom he married June 13, 1987, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton; children, Jessica (Chris) Reeb, and twins, Matthew Spies and Mark Spies, all of Trenton; grandchildren, Charlie “Shug” Reeb and Joel “Bubba" Reeb; brother, Roland Spies of Bloomington; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Helen, nee Schaeffer, Douthit of Bingham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike (Amy) Douthit of Hartford, Erica (Kyle) Douthit-Herbst of Breese, and Derek Douthit of Bingham; and nieces and nephews.

     

    Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Louis “Buddy” Spies; daughter, Sara Elizabeth Spies (2/23/2009); and brother, Dean Spies.

     

    Kurt dedicated much of his professional life to his work as a plumber and pipefitter, proudly serving as a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101 in Belleville. He was also an active member of several organizations, including Masonic Lodge 109, former Knights of Columbus member, and as a Lodge Member at Camp Ondessonk, a place where many precious family memories were made.

     

    An avid outdoorsman, Kurt found joy in backpacking, camping, and volunteering at Camp Ondessonk. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with those closest to him, sharing his passion for nature and adventure with his children and grandchildren.

     

    Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton with Deacon Tom Ritzheimer officiating. Interment will follow at Trenton Cemetery.

     

    Visitation will be Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to Camp Ondessonk or Masonic Lodge and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
