    LaVergne H. Breiner, age 84, of Damiansville, passed away Friday, October 18, 2019 at Aviston Countryside Manor.

     

    He was born January 27, 1935 in New Baden, a son of the late Emil and Frieda, nee Billhartz, Breiner.

     

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Julie Ann, nee Eversgerd, Breiner, whom he married August 4, 1959 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown and who died August 6, 2018; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Conrad and Leona, nee Rakers, Eversgerd; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward Fiedler, Frank Santel, Paul Eversgerd, Mark Kane, and James (Martha) Eversgerd.

     

    Surviving are his children, Deb (Doug) Laumbattus of New Athens, Dan (Lori) Breiner of Damiansville, and Dave (Judy) Breiner of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Erika (Brad) Penet, Neil Laumbattus, Clint (friend Becca Aaron) Breiner, Emma Breiner, Derek Breiner, and Dylan Breiner; great-grandchild, Jayce Breiner; step-great-grandchildren, Lawson, Barrett, and Rowan Penet; siblings, Marilyn Fiedler of Belleville, Betty Santel of Damiansville, and Darlene (Albin) Toennies of Damiansville; and sisters-in-law, Florence Kane and Mary Eversgerd.

     

    LaVergne was a veteran of the United States Army and later retired as a truck driver for Kohnen Concrete Products in Germantown. Mr. Breiner was a member of St. Damian Catholic Church and the Albers American Legion Post 1026. He enjoyed woodworking, feeding hummingbirds, and going to the clubhouse.

     

    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Rev. Anthony Onyango and Deacon Glenn Netemeyer presiding. Interment will be at a later date in St. Damian Cemetery, Damiansville.

     

    Visitation will be Monday, October 21, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown and again on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Damian Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be received at the funeral home and church.
