Laverne was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Ethel (nee Hemker), whom he married on September 20, 1966, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese. Ethel passed away on January 12, 2020. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Cornelius (Lorraine) Zurliene, Eileen (Elmer) Toennies, Kathleen (Robert “Jack”) Ripperda, and Rita (Jim) Horstmann; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Bernadine (nee Eversgerd) Hemker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David Hummert, Florence (Clarence “Yank”) Rickhoff, Edward Hemker, Jr., and Robert Hemker; and close family friend, Ann Mohesky.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Phyllis (Robert) Dumstorff and Carol Hummert, all of Breese; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louis “Sonny” (Jane) Hemker, Marvin (Jan) Hemker, and Carol Hemker, all of Bartelso; close family friend, Vernon Mohesky of Breese; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard, Laverne dedicated many years to his career, working at Curtis Jansen Harvester in Highland, Poettker Construction in Breese, and Johannes Construction in Centralia as a Shop Manager. He was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso, Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227, and served for many years as a board member for the Carlyle Southwest Public Water District.

Laverne had a passion for repairing tools, gardening, and tending to his blackberry, pecan, and fruit trees. He cherished weekly sibling lunches at V & H Bowl in Breese, but above all, he treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
