        Lawrence Melvin Jones, age 86, of Trenton, died Friday, December 19, 2025, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, one day after his 65th wedding anniversary. He was born March 6, 1939, on the family farm north of Benton, a son of the late Stanton and Jane (nee Tackett) Jones.

         

        In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Jones and sisters, Mildred Kielen and Norma Jones.

         

        Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Susan Jones (nee Davidson), whom he married December 18, 1960; children, Larry (Kim) Jones, Diana (John) Engel, and Jerry (Shelia) Jones; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Hogan, Joshua Jones, Chris (Karen) Bellm, Matthew (Shanna) Feldman, Amanda Feldman, Brittnie (David) House, and Casey Ainslie; great-grandchildren, Addison and John Hogan, Amelia and Patrick Bellm, Keegan and Hudson Wells, and Hope House; sister, Karen Jones; and sister-in-law, Paula McLarney.

         

        Lawrence graduated from the Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in Agriculture Education and went on to obtain a master’s degree and a Specialist Degree at the University of Illinois. He began teaching agriculture at Odin and after five years, began teaching at Wesclin in Trenton. While teaching he also farmed his ground north of Trenton and owned and operated a siding and replacement window business.

         

        He loved his family, his students, farming, and after retirement, he enjoyed gardening and fishing. His favorite places to fish were Carlyle Lake, Rend Lake, and for twenty-five winters, he visited the Gulf of Mexico.

         

        As for his wishes, Lawrence will be cremated and there will be no services.
