Lenas Lee Vonna “Lynn” Hilmes, age 87, formerly of St. Rose, and more recently of Greenville and Highland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Lynn was born on September 13, 1937, in Richlands, VA, the daughter of the late Dave and Corlie (nee Hayden) Shinault.
Lynn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Hilmes, whom she married on October 5, 1957, in Riverside, CA. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1992. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Lola Sargent, Helen Nuckles, Nathan Shinault, Clarence Shinault, and Elmer “Billy” Shinault; as well as her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Veronica “Fronie” (Alvin) Boeckmann, Lawrence “Boop” (Henrietta) Hilmes, Greg Hilmes, Amanda (Aloys) Molitor, Frances (Alfred) Molitor, Florence Hilmes, and Clarence “Stix” Hilmes.
Lynn is survived by her children, Connie Weis of Greenville, Jim Hilmes of Highland, John Hilmes of Pierron, and Jerry "Tater" Hilmes of Carpenter. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rodney Weis, Carla (Mike) Ratermann, and Ashley Weis; her siblings, Imogene Roy of Walterboro, SC, Ernest Shinault of Cleveland, OH, and Ron (Sue) Shinault of Richlands, VA; her sister-in-law, Arlene Hilmes of Beaver Prairie; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends of the family, Steve Dothager, Terri Hilmes, and Wayne Weis.
Lynn proudly served her country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958. Later, she devoted herself to her home and family as a homemaker. She had a passion for gardening, enjoyed camping, and loved playing games with family and friends.
All services will be private and interment will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
