  • Full Obituary

Linda L. Coach, age 79, of Damiansville, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. She was born May 15, 1945, in Chicago, a daughter of the late Glenn and Ruth (nee Raines) Waltrip.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Coach, whom she married March 16, 1968 in Wauconda, IL and who died September 2, 2023; siblings, Glenn Waltrip, Sallie (Edward) Panzer, Carole Bergstrom, and David (Dawn) Waltrip; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Ruby (nee Keeney) Coach; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay Lambertus and Frank Coach.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Gwen (Steve) Fuehne of Damiansville; grandchildren, Grace, Matthew, and Evelyn Fuehne; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anna Mae Waltrip of New Jersey and Frank Lambertus II of West Virginia; and nieces and nephews.

For over 40 years, Linda dedicated herself to Harris Bank of Barrington, where she built not just a career, but lasting friendships that stood the test of time. She was a cherished friend to many, always finding joy in the company of those she held dear. She had a liking for Sarah Coventry Jewelry, selling it for many years. In her later years, she volunteered with the HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary and worked in the gift shop.

Bowling was more than a pastime for Linda—it was a tradition shared with lifelong friends and neighbors, a connection that remained strong through the years. Her love of sewing was a gift to her family, whether it was crafting elaborate Halloween costumes, making matching outfits for extended family, or later, pouring her heart into quilts, blankets, and crochet projects. No matter how crazy the request, she always found a way to bring it to life with her talented hands.

Traveling was another passion, she explored the U.S. through camping trips, adventures with her sisters, and unforgettable vacations with her grandchildren. She faced life's physical challenges with determination—though she walked with an unsteady foot and took her fair share of tumbles (some quite dramatic), she never let that slow her down for long.

A true master in the kitchen, Linda was known for her delicious appetizers, her famous "snicky snacks," and the joy she found in baking cookies for those she loved.

Above all, Linda was deeply devoted to her family. She shared an unbreakable bond with her "#1 daughter" and favorite son-in-law, Steve, and held a special connection with “cousin Tom”. In 2007, she and her husband moved to Damiansville—though she was hesitant at first, she soon embraced the tight-knit community and was welcomed with open arms by the Fuehne family who have always treated her as one of their own.
