    Lorene M. Rehkemper, age 86, of St. Rose, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville. She was born February 1, 1939, in St. Rose Twp, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Gertrude (nee Kampwerth) Buehne.

     

    In addition to her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene A. Rehkemper, whom she married October 13, 1959, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland and who died June 15, 2017; siblings, Lucille (Louis) Thole, Norbert (Regina) Buehne,  Esther (Ed) Thole, Imogene (Leon) Luber, Eugene “Butch” (Geraldine “Gerry”) Buehne, and Carol Moss; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Rosa (nee Hoh) Rehkemper; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerome (Lorene) Rehkemper, Paul (Jeanette) Rehkemper, Rita Rehkemper, Cornelius Rehkemper, and Dolores Rehkemper.

     

    Lorene is survived by her children, Tim (Mary) Rehkemper of St. Rose and Mary Kay Rehkemper of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Emily (Tony O’Rourke) Rehkemper, Lydia (Blake) Benhoff, Garrett Gieseking, and Justin (fiancee, Allison Hemingway) Gieseking; great-grandchildren, Harper and Sophia O’Rourke; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Buehne of Aviston, Ron (Mary Jo) Moss of Highland, Joanne Rehkemper St. Rose, Francis (Rose) Rehkemper of Breese, and Tom (friend, Pat Dorries) Rehkemper of St. Louis; and nieces and nephews.

     

    Lorene dedicated her working years to various roles, including record-keeping at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the loan department at Farmers and Merchants Bank, and bookkeeping at the Bond County Health Department before retiring. She was a faithful member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Altar Sodality and found joy in giving back to her community through Meals on Wheels.

     

    A woman of many talents and passions, Lorene enjoyed playing euchre and rummy and was always up for a trip to the gambling boat. She was an excellent cook and a proud member of a 40-year card club, where she formed lifelong friendships and shared many laughs.

     

    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Rose Cemetery.

     

    Visitation will be Monday, March 10, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese and again Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, St. Rose Parish, or Family Hospice and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
