    Louise Rathmann, age 90, of Belleville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.

     

    Born on March 16, 1933, in Belleville, Louise was the daughter of the late Lambert and Emma Fehlker. She married the love of her life, George D. Rathmann, on May 17, 1952, at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville. George preceded her in death on December 15, 2021.

     

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Nellie (Bob) Richter, Marce (Verdell) Fehlker, Jerry (Harriet) Fehlker, and Marilyn (Fred) Siddle, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Estelle, nee Billhartz, Rathmann, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice (Leander “Ben”) Moss and John Rathmann.

     

    Louise is survived by her loving children, Bill (Connie) Rathmann of Edwardsville, Andy (Katja) Rathmann of Blacksburg, VA, and Jerry (Melinda) Rathmann of Bremerton, WA. Cherished grandchildren include Nick (Sarah) Rathmann, Keith (friend Searra) Rathmann, Larissa Rathmann, Ayden Rathmann, and Ella Rathmann. She is also survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Letty Rathmann of Germantown and Jim (Gail) Rathmann of Texas,, as well as special nieces, Debbie Fehlker of FL, Barbara Rhodes of Belleville, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

     

    Louise took immense pride as the owner/operator of Bresler’s Ice Cream Shop in Belleville. She was an active member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church and Altar Sodality in Belleville, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Louise was also a member of CWV Post 370 Auxiliary-Belleville and a life member of Belleville/Swansea Moose Lodge 1221. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle, and cherished the memories of traveling Europe and the United States with her husband George. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

     

    A Memorial Mass to celebrate Louise's life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Belleville, with Fr. William McGhee and Fr. Gene Neff concelebrating. Interment will take place at a later date at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville.

     

    Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Belleville.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Belleville, IL. Donations will be received at the visitation or may be sent by mail to Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is honored to serve the family.
