Lynn A. “Punkin” Pfister, age 81, of Breese, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Aviston Countryside Manor.
He was born October 29, 1941 in Breese, a son of the late Alvin and Ruth, nee Robertson, Pfister.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Dixie Pfister, nee Dixon, of Breese, whom he married April 26, 1962 in Pinckneyville; children, Tammy (Tom) Travis of Hoffman, Angel (Steve) Warnecke of Breese, and Rob (friend, Leslie Ingram) Pfister of Nashville; grandchildren, Amanda Travis, Michael Warnecke, Nicole Warnecke, Cynthia (Josh) Johnson, Delaney (Kevin) Jackson; great-grandchildren, Aurorah and Ah’Meriah Burns, Tristan, Trinity, Hunter, and Hendrix Johnson, Colton and Emelia Jackson and baby boy Jackson on the way; siblings, Nancy Long of Highland and Gary (Pam) Pfister of Michigan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Annabelle) Dixon of Carlyle, Sandra (Leland) Hesson of Beverly, OH, and Judy (friend Don Timmermann) Walsh of Breese.
In addition to Lynn’s parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Grace, nee Newkirk, Dixon and brother-in-law, Jerry “Jeep” Long.
Punkin's career was a testament to his dedication and work ethic. He retired from Granite City Steel as a wastewater treatment plant operator and had previously worked as a train engineer and crane operator. Lynn was a proud member of the First Assembly of God Church in Carlyle, where his faith thrived. He also held affiliations with various unions, including United Steelworkers, Teamsters, and Chemical Workers.
Punkin's life was marked by his deep faith, multifaceted talents, and cherished hobbies. He found solace in woodworking and derived great joy from tinkering with various projects. Fishing and camping were not just pastimes but heartfelt passions that allowed him to connect with the beauty of the natural world. His innate ability to fix anything made him the reliable go-to person for help in his community. Punkin had a profound appreciation for music and took great pleasure in watching Cardinals Baseball. Above all, he treasured the simple pleasure of leisurely walks around his beloved hometown of Breese.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Rev. Chuck Waggoner officiating. Interment will follow at Ellwood Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Centralia Humane Society and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
