  • Full Obituary

Marian Lee Thompson (née Manley), 95, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10 at Cedarhurst of Breese.
She was born March 14, 1923 in Mt. Vernon to the late Mona (née Dale) and Byford Manley.
Surviving are her children, Charlotte (John) Suhler of Darien, CT, Debra “Debi” (Chris) Dixon of Breese, Charles (Shelley Timm-Thompson) Thompson of River Forest, IL; grandchildren, Ashley (Bob) Tobin, Courtney Suhler, Brooke (Moh) Palizi, Charlee Dixon, Casey Dixon, Charlie Thompson, and Olivia Thompson; great-grandchildren, Harry Tobin, Ashton Morey, Cameron Morey, Parker Palizi, Delilah Palizi, Braylen Dixon-Daniels, Cooper Dixon; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Paka Thompson; and six nieces. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert K Thompson, her siblings June Barr and Byford “Sonny” Manley, and her beloved miniature poodle companion, Mr. Peabody.
Except for her last few years, Marian was a lifelong Mt. Vernonite, graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1941 and marrying her husband Bob K the same year. A social couple, the Thompsons were popular members of the Whipoorwhirl Club, Green Hills Country Club, The Elks Club, Trinity Episcopal Church, and various bridge clubs. Marian worked for Sullivan Cable TV for over 20 years, becoming the manager of 3 Southern Illinois offices.
After her husband died in 1986, Marian enjoyed the company of her many girlfriends and devoted herself to her children and grandchildren. Witty without sarcasm, direct but with kindness, she was often seen with a great-grandchild on her lap, and a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay in her hand. We will miss seeing the impish twinkle in her blue eyes and her fun-loving spirit.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1100 Harrison St, Mt. Vernon, IL. Rev. Ben Hankinson will officiate. Family will receive friends at 9:00-10:45 a.m before the service in the parish center. Interment will follow in Oak Wood Cemetery, Mt. Vernon.
