    Marion O. “Butch” Westfall, age 71, of Breese, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with Cerebral Atherosclerosis.

     

    Born on June 4, 1953, in Granite City, Butch was the beloved son of the late Carl and Grace (née Conover) Westfall. On August 21, 1982, he married Cheryl (née Hilmes) Westfall, who survives him in Breese.

     

    In addition to his wife, Butch is survived by his children, Dana (fiancé Charles Williams) McLennan of Collinsville, Cassandra (Kymontus) McShan of Edwardsville, Bryan Westfall of Rutherfordton, NC, Erin (Kyle Myers of Highland, Gina (Christopher) Glaub of Breese, and Sheila (Derek) Aarseth of Sparta; grandchildren, Taylor Westfall, Jonathon and Josephine McLennan, Gabriel Westfall-Mckenzie, Savanna Westfall-Lemp, Isabel and Ellerie Westfall, Peyton and Lexi Myers, Eric (Elizabeth), Evan, and Lyndsie Theis, Alyssa and Michelle Glaub, Avery, Autumn, and Derek Jr., Aarseth; great-grandchildren, Elsie, Sophia, Braydon, Ozias, and Elijah; sister, Catherine (Eugene) Weldon of Lincoln; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roy Abbott of Glen Carbon, Jean Hilmes of Modesto, CA, Leonard (Paula) Hilmes of Freeburg, Connie (Gary) Lager of Beckemeyer, Lucy (Tom) Henrichs of Highland, Kevin Hilmes of Damiansville, Nancy Hilmes of Breese, Sharon (Brian) Netemeyer of Albers, Mark (Geralyn) Hilmes of Aviston, Ken (Loretta) Hilmes of New Baden, Cecilia (Don) Scott of El Paso, TX, and Shirley Hilmes of Breese; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a cherished daughter, Theresa Westfall; a great-grandson, Cyson McLennan; his sister, Phyllis Abbott; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Helen (née Wesselmann) Hilmes; and brothers-in-law Frank Hilmes, Robert Hilmes, Jr., and Michael Hilmes.

     

    Butch proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army and went on to work for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of the ASPCA and a former member of the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227. Known for his deep love of animals, Butch found joy in raising puppies and supporting animal welfare causes. He also enjoyed collecting guns, woodworking, restoring classic cars, tinkering with RC cars, and most of all, cherishing time spent with his grandchildren.

     

    A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Chaplain Kip Knavel officiating.  Interment with full military honors accorded will follow at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese.

     

    Visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Clinton County Humane Society or Residential Hospice and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
