- Full Obituary
Maurice E. “Moe” Buehne, age 69, of Highland, and formerly of St. Rose, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Liberty Village of Maryville. He was born on January 29, 1955, in Breese, a son of the late Norbert and Regina (nee Frey) Buehne.
In addition to his parents, Moe was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Ray Schulte and Dennis Rehkemper; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ferdinand and Mary (nee Ward) Rehkemper; and nephew, Casey Renschen.
Moe is survived by his loving wife, Karen Buehne (nee Rehkemper), of Highland, whom he married July 28, 1978, at St. Rose Catholic Church; daughters, Amy (Michael) McCoy of Troy and Tricia (Matt) Leodler of Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Ayden John Corpin and Aaron Nicholas Leodler; siblings, Alice Schulte of Breese, Doris (Charles) Diekemper of Carlyle, Gloria (John) Baro of Aviston, Anita (Kevin) Zurliene of Albers, and Linus (Deb) Buehne of St. Rose; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beverly (Steven) Wintermann of Carlyle, Jackie (Chuck) Tebbe of Highland, and Carol (Ron) Kohlbrecher of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Moe was a hardworking man who retired in 2017 after a dedicated career in maintenance at Amsted Rail. In addition to his profession, he poured his energy into his full-time passion as a farmer at Buehne Farms. He was deeply committed to his community, serving as a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality, the St. Rose Development Club, the Highland Knights of Columbus Council 1580, and the United Steelworkers Local 1063. Moe also formerly served as a volunteer for the St. Rose Fire Department and treasurer of the St. Rose Fire District. His love for the outdoors and conservation was evident in his involvement with Ducks Unlimited Highland Chapter.
An outdoorsman at heart, Moe found joy in duck hunting, fishing, and working the land. He delighted in woodworking and exploring the countryside on drives, often accompanied by his loyal hunting dogs, Lucas, Whiskey, and Pete. Traveling brought him happiness, but his greatest passion was spending time with his cherished family, creating memories that will endure.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese and again Monday, December 2, 2024, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Church in St. Rose.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, St. Rose Fire Department, or St. Rose Church and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
