Maurice J. “Speedy” Benhoff, age 49, of Beckemeyer, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Breese Nursing Home.
He was born October 3, 1968 in Breese, a son of the late Leonard “Stix” and Marie, nee Sudholt, Benhoff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leon and Mark Benhoff; and grandparents, Leo and Agatha, nee Buehne, Sudholt and Anton and Veronica, nee Hoh, Benhoff.
Surviving are his siblings, Michael Benhoff of Collinsville, Mary (Mike) Stefanisin of Breese, Melvin (Mary Jean) Benhoff of Breese, Matt (Lori) Benhoff of St. Rose, and Marlene (Tim) Bequette of Bonne Terre, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Speedy was a laborer at Holland Construction in Swansea and a member of Laborers Local 581-Carlyle and AFL-CIO. He was also a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer, current president of the Beckemeyer Community Development Club (BCDC), current Senior Vice President of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 1227 in Beckemeyer and was very active with the logistics committee for the Clinton County Relay for Life. Speedy loved life and people, and his smile was contagious. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding. Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Beckemeyer.
Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 8:00-9:15 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to the Beckemeyer Community Development Club (BCDC) or to Clinton County Relay for Life and will be received at the funeral home.
The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 1227 will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
