    Paulette “Mutz” Wellen, age 82, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at her home. She was born September 30, 1942, in Carlyle, a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (nee Rohr) Vandeloo.

     

    Mutz married James “Jim” Wellen on May 30, 1961, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on June 25, 2008. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Wellen; infant brother, Norman Vandeloo; siblings, Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo, JoAnn (Sylvester “Beps”) Kauling; Betty (Marcellus “Teedle”) Niemeyer, and Don (Lu) Vandeloo; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Anna (nee Thuenemann) Wellen; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia Vandeloo, Alphonse (Josephine) Wellen, Clarence “Bud” (Ann) Wellen, Alfred (Anita) Wellen, Bernadine (Jack) Schaefer, Alfred “Otto” (Anita “Pete”) Wellen, Eleanor (Urban) Bertke, and Leona (Bob) Singler, and Delores Wellen and Albert Wellen Jr., both in infancy.

     

    Mutz is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Brad) Farrar of New Baden; grandchildren, Zachary (Angela) Peters and Bryanne (significant other, Alexander Heck) Peters; great-grandchildren, Jace, Lainey, and Russell Peters; brother, Bill Vandeloo of Carlyle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     

    Mutz dedicated over thirty-four years of service as a Logistics Manager at Scott Air Force Base before her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Trenton and enjoyed fellowship in the Okawville ladies’ golf league. Known for her warm spirit and love of simple joys, Mutz delighted in quilting, playing cards and bingo, savoring ice cream, and most especially, spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

     

    Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. George Zieba presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Trenton.

     

    Visitation will be Friday, September 12, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

     

    In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Mary Parish, Parkinsons Foundation, or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF) and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main St. Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
