Robert J. "Bob" Habermehl, age 84, of St. Rose, IL, died peacefully at home on March 21, 2025. Born on July 18, 1940, in East St. Louis, IL, he was the beloved son of the late William and Mamie (nee Poff) Habermehl.
Bob married Linda Beshears on June 13, 1973, at St. Margaret Mary Church in Granite City, IL, and together they shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Habermehl of St. Rose, IL; his children, Danial (Freda) Habermehl of South Dakota, Lisa Cage of Belleville, IL, Robert (Sarah) Habermehl of Peyton, CO, William (Nicole) Habermehl of Highland, IL, Craig Habermehl of St. Louis, MO, and Cathy (Jeff) Black of Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving sister, Dolores McAlister of Belleville, IL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Wilma (Lloyd) Withrow, Lilliam (Joe) Roberts, Edna (Tom) Dillon, Katherine Habermehl, Dorothy McIntyre, and his brothers, William Habermehl (in infancy), and George (Rose) Habermehl.
Bob dedicated 34 years of service to Union Pacific Railroad before retiring. Prior to that, he spent eight years working at Granite City Steel. He was a faithful member of St. Rose Catholic Church, the Maryville Knights of Columbus Council 6625, and the St. Rose Development Club. Bob found joy in the great outdoors, enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, and golfing.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, IL, with Fr. Edward Schaefer presiding and Deacon Jay Fowler assisting. Interment will follow at a later date at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston, IL.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, IL.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorial donations may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church for masses or to Bond County Hospice. Contributions may be made at the visitation or sent by mail to Moss Funeral Home, 535 N 5th St., Breese, IL 62230, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
