  • Full Obituary

Shirley M. “Oma” Gill, age 86, of Glen Carbon, IL, left her loved ones and joined her beloved husband and cherished grandson early Friday morning October 6, 2023 surrounded by family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Debra (Charles) Threlkeld and Tamra (Dave) Koltveit; six grandchildren, Clint (Caroline) Koltveit, Kim (Brock) Riecken, Chas (Louise) Threlkeld, Diane Threlkeld, Ben (Kenzie) McQuade, and Cory (Kyra) Koltveit; numerous great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gene (Doris) Michael and Bob (Nancy) Michael.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Gill, the love of her life, whom she married September 26, 1970 in Beech Grove, IN and he died June 10, 2010; and her grandson, Daniel McQuade.

Shirley and her husband traveled the world as service members of the United States Air Force.  She retired from civil service in 1998 after 25 years.  She volunteered at Illini Community Hospital in her retirement.  Oma was known for her homemade jams, pies, and chicken and noodles.  She loved gardening and was an avid crafter, including painting, crocheting, and was an expert seamstress.

Spending time with family was Oma’s highest priority, whether it was sitting around the table for a meal or playing card games.  Whenever you stopped by her house, she’d always have coffee brewed and a puzzle on the table.

Being an Oma was the biggest joy of her life and she was an Oma to all who knew her.
