Therese M. Schmalz, nee Stallings, age 90, of Breese, and formerly of Sterling, IL, passed away Monday, August, 22, 2022 at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
She was born March 28, 1932 in East St. Louis, IL, a daughter of the late John E. and Rose A., nee Creane, Stallings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Schmalz, whom she married May 1, 1965 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton and who died in 1987; brother, Monsignor John “Jack” E. Stallings; sister, Mary Ann (Martin) Haselhorst; brother-in-law, Alfred Heger; and nephew, David Tabaska.
Therese is survived by her sisters, Josephine L. Heger of Southern Pines, NC and Ursula C. (Gerald) Tabaska of Breese; brother Paul J. Stallings; and nephew/foster son, Daniel M. (Valerie) Stallings of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews.
Therese retired as a histotechnician from KSB Hospital in Dixon, IL. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, American Clinical Society of American Pathologist, and National Society of Histotechnology.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 26, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter presiding. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling, IL.
Memorials in honor of Therese may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church or HSHS St. Joseph Hospital in Breese and will be received at the Mass or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th St. Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
