Thomas Edward “Ed” Swinney, age 68, of Trenton and formerly of New Baden, entered into rest Friday, May 20, 2022 at his home.
He was born May 29, 1953 in Breese, a son of the late Edna, nee Kann, and Mason Swinney, Sr.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother William “Bill” Swinney; and nephew Shaun Swinney.
Surviving are his sons, Cory (Megan) Swinney of Germantown, Kyle Swinney of Brentwood, TN, and Tommy Swinney of Freeburg; grandchildren, Waylon, Tucker, and Jules Swinney; siblings, Lola (Jim) DeGroff of Troy and Mason (Roberta) Swinney of Louisville, KY; and special friend, Karen Kues of Bartelso.
Ed worked for the State of Illinois for over 25 years and was enjoying his retirement and spending time with his grandchildren. Ed loved spending time with Karen, traveling, and tinkering with and riding motorcycles. He never met a stranger and was always the first to offer a helping hand. Anyone that knew him knows how much he will be missed.
He was a former member of Masonic Lodge #418-Freeburg and later joined Masonic Lodge #0109-Trenton.
The Masonic Lodge Ceremony and Celebration of Life Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, New Baden.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to his grandchildren’s education fund (checks payable to Cory Swinney) and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, 105 S. Main, Trenton, IL 62293, who is serving the family.
