Richard J. Ratermann

Richard J. Ratermann, age 92 of Breese, born September 16, 1922 in Breese to the late Henry and Catherine, nee Feltrop, Ratermann, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Mr. Ratermann was a self employed grain farmer. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality, 72 year member and was the last living charter member of the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly, and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

Surviving is a sister, Olivia Landmann and husband Orville of Highland; a brother, Henry F. “Bud” Ratermann and wife Verna of Breese; a sister-in-law, Rita Ratermann of Breese; a brother-in-law, Virgil Ripperda of Trenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Sylvester Ratermann and wife, Mary Louise, Alfred Ratermann, Ralph Ratermann, Melvin Ratermann, Florentine Ripperda, Agnes Detmer and husband Ted, Alvina Voss and husband Victor, and Jerry Ratermann.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to St. Dominic Church and will be received at the funeral home.

The Breese Knights of Columbus, and Bishop Althoff 4th Degree Assembly will hold services Wednesday at7:30 p.m. at the funeral home

Patricia “Pat” Stallard

Patricia C. “Pat” Stallard, nee Tebbe, age 68 of Highland and formerly of St. Rose, born April 18, 1947 in St. Rose, a daughter of the late Leo H. and Regina, nee Detmer, Tebbe, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Highland Healthcare Center.

She formerly worked as a nurses aid at Highland Healthcare Center and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Altar Sodality and the Highland VFW Auxiliary Post 5694.

Surviving are her children, Marty Stallard and wife Amber of Highland, Jack Stallard and wife Linda of Old Ripley, Mike Stallard and wife Kathy Jo of O’Fallon, and Tracy Davis and husband Dillon of Highland; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul Tebbe and wife Martha of Staunton, Jim Tebbe and wife Elvira “Toots” of St. Rose, Joan Kohlbrecher and husband Clarence “Butch” of St. Rose, Charley Tebbe of Jamestown, Rich Tebbe and wife Rita of St. Rose, and Dan Tebbe and wife Marilyn of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Lestat Stallard.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Cyril F. “Cy” Korte

Cyril F. “Cy” Korte, age 78 of Germantown, born October 20, 1936 in Breese, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville.

Cy was a self employed grain and livestock farmer and along with his wife were the former co-owners and operators for 17 years of Korte Strawberries and for 12 years of Korte Pumpkins. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, Germantown American Legion Post 325, Germantown Community Development, Germantown Business and Professional Association, served on the Spassfest Committee for 48 years, and served on the Board for the U.S.D.A. office in Breese for 20 years.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, spending time with his children and grandchildren, riding his ATV around the farm, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

Surviving is his wife Mary “Pep”, nee Leonard, Korte, who he married November 29, 1968; his children, Buffy Jansen and husband Mark of Germantown, Becky Vogel and husband Kelly of Highland, and Cory Korte and wife Melanie of Germantown; 6 grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Jansen, Kristin Harkey, Destin Vogel, Griffen and Wyatt Korte; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Al “ Jr.” Eversgerd and wife Shirley of Germantown, Frank Leonard and friend Barb Wempe of Breese, and Joseph Leonard and wife Paulette of Germantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Lorraine Korte and Evelyn Eversgerd; a brother, Lavern Korte; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Sophie, nee Kohnen, Leonard; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Leonard.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster officiating. After the Funeral Mass, Mr. Korte will be cremated and a private burial will take place at a later date in St. Boniface Cemetery in Germantown.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

The Germantown American Legion will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Germantown Fire Department or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Paul V. Sims 91 of Trenton died at his residence on his 68th wedding anniversary Thursday August 27, 2015. He married Shirley Poston August 27, 1947 in Centerville.

Paul was born November 1, 1923 in E. St. Louis to Frank and Louise (Christman) Sims: they preceded him in death. Also proceeded in death by 3 brothers.

Paul was a retired lineman with Illinois Power, An Army Veteran of WWII, enjoyed fly fishing and he started the Cub Scout’s Pack 39 in Trenton.

67 years with IBEW Local 309 in Collinsville.

Shirley R. Sims 85 of Trenton died Sunday August 30, 2015 at her residence.

She was born April 3, 1930 in Centerville to Virgil and Adele (Schaub) Poston they preceded her in death.

She married Paul Sims August 27, 1947 in Centerville and he preceded her in death August 27, 2015.

Shirley was a homemaker and member of New Life Christian Center in Trenton, and past member of VFW Auxiliary in Trenton. She enjoyed antiquing and made and sold antique jewelry.

Surviving are their sons David (Michelle) Sims of Trenton, Thomas Sims of Trenton, Michael (Angel) Sims of Bondville, Daniel (Cindy) Sims of Trenton

Visitation will be Monday August 31 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton and Tuesday September 1, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at New Life Christian Center in Trenton.

Trenton VFW members will hold services at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Robert G. “Smitty” Rickhoff, age 83 of Breese, IL, born August 11, 1932 in Lookingglass Twp, IL to the late Henry and Frances, nee Luebke, Rickhoff, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at his residence.

Smitty was a Veteran of the United States Army, retired from the Jefferson-Smurfit Corp. in Highland, IL, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, IL, Breese American Legion Post 252, Carlyle VFW Post 3523, and the United Steelworkers Local 1215.

Surviving is his wife Lucille, nee Bergmann, Rickhoff, of Breese, IL, whom he married September 4, 1956 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers, IL; his daughters, Nancy Huelsmann and husband Dale and Marla Strieker and husband Curt all of Breese, IL; 3 grandchildren, Nicole Voss and husband Scott, Jason “Jay” Strieker and wife Brittany, and Courtney Strieker; 3 great-grandchildren, Maddie Voss, Tucker and Tinley Strieker; his siblings, Paul “Massey” Rickhoff and wife Betty of Bartelso, IL and Loretta “Tootie” Trame of Carlyle, IL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Ann Gehrs and husband Jim of Swansea, IL and Sally Bergmann of Alpharetta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred “Bigfoot” Rickhoff; a sister, Bernice Loepker; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, August “Augie” Trame, Fronie Rickhoff, Vic Loepker, Ceil and Ferdie Thien, Adele and August Sundrup.
