Edward M. Roberts Jr. 1SG U.S. Army – Ret.

Edward M. “Ed” Roberts, Jr., 1SG US Army, Ret., age 79 of Germantown, IL, born June 26, 1935 in Cohasset, MA, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Mr. Roberts began his US Army career in 1954 and retired after 20 years of service with the rank of 1SG in 1974 at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He then worked as an Assistant Manager with Kohlbrecher Truck Service at the Lebanon, IL location. He enjoyed woodworking, spending most of his time making clocks.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, IL, VFW Post 7983, Trenton, IL, and the American Legion Post 325, Germantown, IL where he called bingo for 26 years.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys, nee Fredericks, and Edward M. Roberts, Sr.; brothers, Howard and John Roberts; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Rose, nee Merscher, Kreke; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jennie Roberts, Barbara Roberts, Florence and Edward Dumstorff, Elvera and Harry Fischer, Ray and Del Kreke, James Kreke, and Virgil Kreke.

Surviving is his wife Marilyn, nee Kreke, Roberts, whom he married November 16, 1957 in the St. Dominic Church Rectory, Breese, IL; his children, Rose Marie Detmer and Edward M. Roberts, III and wife Karen all of Germantown; 2 grandchildren, Lisa Hufker and husband Nate and Matthew Detmer and wife Melissa; 4 great-grandchildren, Addison and Alayna Hufker and Ian and Rylee Detmer; a brother, Wilfred Roberts of Whitman, MA; and sisters-in-law, Eileen Roberts of Norwell, MA and Louise Kreke of Midwest City, OK..

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, IL with Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown, IL.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home. Germantown, IL.

Germantown American Legion will pray the rosary at 7:00 PM followed by the Trenton VFW services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Jerome B. “Jerry” Jansen 77 of Breese died Friday May 1, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.
He was born n Summerfield to Leo and Marie (Eilers) Jansen: they preceded him in death.

Married Martha Mumma, July 4, 1959 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese and she preceded him in death March 25, 2015.

Also preceded in death by a brother Wilbert “Butch” Jansen, father and mother-in-law Robert and Ruth (King) Mumma Sr., sister-in-law Millie Jansen, brothers-in-law Paul Kuper, Robert Mumma Jr., Brad Bennett

Jerry retired from Scoot Air Force Base as a budget Analysis and the “Hayride” Deejay for WGEL Radio in Greenville. Jerry and his wife Martha brought joy to many children’s Christmas as Santa and Mrs. Claus. He had a special love for his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan; he enjoyed golf, playing cards and the outdoors.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality in Breese, Honorary Life member of the Bishop Althoff 4th degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus Council # 2869 and served as past grand knight and Bingo Chairman for 28 years. Charter and past president of the Breese Jaycee’s, Founding member of the Bent Oak Golf Course, Mater Dei Fathers and Friend Club, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and a crossing guard for All Saints Academy.

Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday May 6, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment St. Dominic – St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 5, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday May 6, from 8:00 to 9:45 am at the Moss
Funeral Home in Breese.

Breese Knights will hold services at 7:00 pm Tuesday May 5, followed by Bishop Althoff 4th Degree services at the funeral home.

Raymond E. Broach, age 75 of Breese, born May 5, 1939 in Belleville, IL, a son of the late Edward and Mildred, nee Mayeski, Brosch, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home.

He is survived by his wife Linda, nee Baehr, Brosch of Breese, whom he married June 28, 1986 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Marydale, IL; his children, Barry Baker and wife GiGi of Centralia, IL, Maria Williams of St. Augustine, FL, Christopher Baker and wife Margaret of Charleston, SC, and Laura Liantonio and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; a sister, Carolyn Ackroyd of Swansea, IL; a sister-in-law, Millie Essert of Breese, IL; a nephew, John McGuire of Swansea; and a great-niece, Katlyn McGuire.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Wallace Ackroyd and Herman Essert.

Ray retired as a computer analyst from Scott Air Force Base, and was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869 where he served as the past warden, and the 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, Purple Martins, and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and again on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese, IL.

James A. “Jim” Kohnen, 68 of Germantown, born December 6, 1946 in Breese, a son of Aloys and Minerva, nee McIntyre, Kohnen, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at Carbondale Rehab and Nursing Home in Carbondale.

Surviving are his children, Michele Zimbelman and husband Mark of Murphysboro, Mark Kohnen and wife Trishia of Germantown, Matthew Kohnen and wife Jolene of Aviston, and Maura Lee and husband Jim of Murphysboro; 7 grandchildren, Jessica Spring, Christian, Riley, and Alaina Kohnen, Dayton and Elise Kohnen, and Jayme Lee; brothers, Gerald Kohnen and wife Ann, David “Goose” Kohnen and wife Deb, and Paul Kohnen and wife Deb all of Germantown; and former wife, Mary, nee Ratermann, Schaub.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Michael Kohnen.

Jim received his B.S. in Accounting from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and worked as an accountant at Scott Air Force Base and was a former Deputy Sheriff in Clinton County.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Alfred B. “Pete” Linnemann, age 89 of Germantown, born October 20, 1925 in Germantown, a son of the late Henry and Josephine, nee Ripperda, Linnemann, died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Breese Nursing Home.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, nee Kohrmann, Linnemann, whom he married November 23, 1949 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, and died November 20, 2012; a granddaughter, Jennifer Haar; brothers, Clarence “Blackie” Linnemann and Lawrence “Smokey” Linnemann: an infant sister, Alice Linnemann; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence Linnemann, Agnes Linnemann, Florence Jansen and husband Richard, Marilyn Beckmann, Raymond “Bucky” Boeckmann, Edward “Artie” Thoele, Cletus “Skeets” Holtmann, and Diane Kohrmann.

Surviving are his children, Carol Ann Gorman and husband Sam, Darlene “Lyn” Haar and husband Danny, and Daniel Linnemann and fiancée Marcia Wuebbels all of Germantown; 3 grandchildren, Carrie Timmermann and husband Matt, Aaron and Ryan Linnemann; 4 great-grandchildren, Helena, Aisley, Kambree, and Lawson Timmermann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Kohrmann and wife Clara of Albers, Mildred Boeckmann, Mary Jane Thoele, Marcella “Sally” Brueggemann and husband Sep, Roger Kohrmann, Carolyn Holtmann, Joseph Kohrmann, Jr., Joann Haake and husband Jim, and Virgil Beckmann all of Germantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII and retired as a laborer working for the cities of Granite City and Carlyle.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, Germantown American Legion Post 325 where he served as past commander, Germantown Library Board, Laborers Union, and the Germantown and Clinton County Historical Society. Pete enjoyed woodworking and used his knowledge of the past to build and recreate miniature historical homes and businesses that once existed in the Village of Germantown.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Monday, April 20, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
