Edward M. Roberts Jr. 1SG U.S. Army – Ret.

Edward M. “Ed” Roberts, Jr., 1SG US Army, Ret., age 79 of Germantown, IL, born June 26, 1935 in Cohasset, MA, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL.

Mr. Roberts began his US Army career in 1954 and retired after 20 years of service with the rank of 1SG in 1974 at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He then worked as an Assistant Manager with Kohlbrecher Truck Service at the Lebanon, IL location. He enjoyed woodworking, spending most of his time making clocks.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, IL, VFW Post 7983, Trenton, IL, and the American Legion Post 325, Germantown, IL where he called bingo for 26 years.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys, nee Fredericks, and Edward M. Roberts, Sr.; brothers, Howard and John Roberts; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Rose, nee Merscher, Kreke; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jennie Roberts, Barbara Roberts, Florence and Edward Dumstorff, Elvera and Harry Fischer, Ray and Del Kreke, James Kreke, and Virgil Kreke.

Surviving is his wife Marilyn, nee Kreke, Roberts, whom he married November 16, 1957 in the St. Dominic Church Rectory, Breese, IL; his children, Rose Marie Detmer and Edward M. Roberts, III and wife Karen all of Germantown; 2 grandchildren, Lisa Hufker and husband Nate and Matthew Detmer and wife Melissa; 4 great-grandchildren, Addison and Alayna Hufker and Ian and Rylee Detmer; a brother, Wilfred Roberts of Whitman, MA; and sisters-in-law, Eileen Roberts of Norwell, MA and Louise Kreke of Midwest City, OK..

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, IL with Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown, IL.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home. Germantown, IL.

Germantown American Legion will pray the rosary at 7:00 PM followed by the Trenton VFW services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Marcella I. Kuhn

Marcella I. Kuhn, nee Siegel, age 88 of Lebanon, IL, born October 1, 1926 in Lebanon, IL, a daughter of the late Conrad and Margaret, nee Hohrein, Siegel, died Monday, May 11, 2015 at Cedar Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon, IL.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Wolfslau; a brother-in-law, George Wolfslau; and a dear friend, Louis Bateman.

Surviving is a daughter, Julia Parker and husband Jerry of Lebanon, IL and a son, Craig Kuhn and fiancée Elena Platonova of Charlotte, NC; 4 granddaughters; 9 great-grandchildren; a niece, Anna Herr and husband Steve of Summerfield, IL; and a nephew, Tom Wolfslau and wife Barb of New Baden, IL.

Mrs. Kuhn graduated from Brown Business College in St. Louis, MO and retired from Sears. Earlier in life, Marcella lived many years on a farm where she enjoyed driving a tractor, gardening, sewing, making pies and quilting. She worked at the Kessler Fur Co. in St. Louis, MO and many years at Legendary Creations and the Christmas Tree Farm. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan

Marcella was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon, IL where she was a past member of the choir, past president of council, and past chairman of quilters; former chairman of the concession stand at Looking Glass Playhouse; Charter Member of the Lioness Club in Lebanon, IL and the Lindley Grange in St. Jacob, IL ; and past president of the Sears Retirees.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon, IL with Pastor Donald Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lebanon, IL.

Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2015 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Church o Christ in Lebanon, IL.

Carla J. Davis-Maroon 56 of Hoffman and formerly of Trenton died Friday May 1, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon

She was born August 20, 1958 in Highland to Betty (Bopp) Davis-Martin and the late Allan Davis. Her mother survives in Trenton.

She married Roger “Whitey” Maroon August 20, 2004 in Carlyle and he survives in Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her father, brothers Larry Davis, Jimmy Davis and a sister Connie Wade and step-father David Martin.

Also surviving are her children Brad (Kate) Jansen of Madison NJ, Alicia Jansen of San Francisco, CA

Carla was a cook at Bryan Manor in Centralia. She loved to cook and had a special love for her dogs.
