Lawrence R. “Larry” Straeter

Lawrence R. “Larry” Straeter 85 of St. Rose died Sunday March 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.

He was born August 25, 1929 to Frank and Elizabeth (Schrage) Straeter.

Married Marie Jansen October 25, 1955 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers and she survives.

Also surviving are his sons William (Tammy) Straeter of St. Rose, Richard (Rose) Straeter of Mt. Vernon, Jerome Straeter of St. Rose, Andrew (Coletta) Straeter of St. Rose, Joseph Straeter of Evansville, IN, Dan Straeter of Highland.

13 grandchildren Curtis (Precious), Kelsey, Kirstie, Colby, Mark, Jeanette, Logan, Dane, Vance, Collin, Madison, Nathan, Ryan Straeter. 3 step grandchildren Greg, Matthew, Heather Gumbel.

Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary E. Straeter, Clara Schachner, Adele Jansen, Marie Jansen, Ed (Norman) Jansen, Norbert Jansen.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Al Straeter, Vic Straeter, sisters, Veronica Ratermann, Ann Stoff, Rose Mary Straeter, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ester Straeter, Vic Ratermann, Harold Stoff, Albert and Catherine Jansen, Ray Jansen, Leo and Henrietta Jansen, Vince Jansen, Ludwig Jansen, Sr. Eulogia Jansen A.S.C., Martha (Al) Varel, Estell (Al) Heiman, Robert Schachner.

Larry graduated from St. Henry’s Seminary in 1947, He was a dairy farmer and maintenance and secretary for St. Rose Water District for 25 years. He loved baseball and following the St. Louis Cardinals.

Member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Men’s Sodality, past lector, Eucharistic minister, and church choir. Breese American Legion Post 252, St. Rose Development Club, He served on St. Joseph Hospital Board and Mater Dei School board.

Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday March 31, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. Rose Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday March 31, 2015 from 11:00 am to 1:45 pm at St. Rose Church in St. Rose.

Memorials can be made to St. Rose Church and will be received at the church during the visitation or through Moss Funeral Home in Breese who is handling the arrangements.

Breese American Legion will do services at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the church.

Jonathan M. “Jon” Schrage

Jonathan M. “Jon” Schrage, age 35 of St. Rose, born August 18, 1979 in Breese, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Pierron.

Surviving are his parents, Janice, nee Schomaker, Schrage and fiancé Scott Kuhl of Breese and Kevin Schrage, Sr. of St. Rose; his siblings, Kevin Schrage, Jr. and friend Ashley of San Diego, CA, Marie Sussenbach and husband Kyle of Greenville, Christina Schrage of Aviston, Sandra Schrage of Aviston, William Kuhl of Breese, and Sammy Kuhl of Breese; nephew and nieces, Tyler and Alyssa Myers, Kylie, Abigail, Georgia, and Lorelai Sussenbach; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Art and Cornelia, nee Schroeder, Schomaker; paternal grandparents, Edgar and Ruth, nee Richter, Schrage; and uncles, Gary Schrage and Roger Schrage.

Jon worked as a mechanic for K & B Truck Repair, Inc. in Pontoon Beach, was a self employed farm mechanic, and helped his father on the family farm.

He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and enjoyed tractor pulling.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery, St. Rose.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. and again on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Martha E. Jansen

Martha E. Jansen, nee Mumma, age 77 of Breese, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Jansen was born September 18, 1937 in Harrisburg, PA to Ruth, nee King, and Robert Mumma, Sr.; they preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Mumma, Jr.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Marie, nee Eilers, Jansen; a sister-in-law, Millie Jansen; and brothers-in-law, Brad Bennett, Wilbert “Butch” Jansen, and Paul Kuper.

Surviving is her husband Jerry Jansen of Breese, whom she married July 4, 1959 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese; her children, Kenny Jansen of Breese, Diane Antonacci and husband Paul of Breese, Julie Henry and husband Eric of York Haven, PA, and Barb Koopmann and husband Ric of Breese; 7 grandchildren, Michael Antonacci, Mary Hilmes and husband Phillip, John Antonacci and wife Amanda, Thomas Antonacci, David Henry, Sarah Koopmann, and Alex Koopmann; 4 great-grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah, Madison, and Caroline, and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her fifth great-grandchild; siblings, Harriet Leicht and husband Marlin of York, PA, Dee Bennett of Dover, PA, and Mildred Brenizer of York, PA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gene Jansen, Lue Flenniken and husband Virgil, and Jane Jansen all of Breese; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, was the assistant librarian for many years at Mater Dei High School in Breese, but most of all enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and second mom to many. She also enjoyed quilting, stitching, babysitting and collecting music boxes.

Mrs. Jansen was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Breese.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. A private family interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese, IL.

Visitation will be Friday, March 27, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to All Saints Academy, Mater Dei High School, or to the Community Link Buddy Walk and will be received at the funeral home.
