Robert H. “Bob” Hemker

Robert H. “Bob” Hemker, 62, of Bartelso, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.

He was born April 27, 1950 in Breese to Bernadine (Eversgerd) and Edward Hemker, Sr.; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Hemker; a brother, Edward Hemker, Jr.; a sister, Florence “Flossie” Rickhoff-Granda; a brother-in-law, Clarence “Yank” Rickhoff; his mother-in-law, Marie Micheel; and a friend, Luis Hernandez.

Bob married Carol Micheel on September 22, 1972 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown; she survives in Bartelso.

Also surviving are his children, Chris (Gary “Art”) Luebbers of Bartelso, Kevin (Shelly) Hemker of Bartelso, Travis (Jeanna) Hemker of Carlyle, and Nikki Hemker of Breese; 10 grandchildren, Kennedy, Brynne, Ava, and Ashlyn Luebbers, Kyra Hemker, Dakota, Olivia, Victoria, and Isabella Hemker, and Logan Reed; brothers, Louis “Sonny” (Jane) Hemker and Marvin (Janet) Hemker all of Bartelso; a sister, Ethel (Laverne) Zurliene of Beckemeyer; and his father-in-law, Roger Micheel of Germantown.

Bob currently worked as a meat cutter at Germantown Grocery, was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed family, friends, fishing, and spending time on the river.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer and Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Bartelso.

Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 8:00-9:30 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Geraldine E. “Gerry” Buehne

Geraldine E. “Gerry” Buehne, nee Schultz, 76, of St. Rose, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, IL.

Mrs. Buehne was born September 13, 1936 in Springfield, IL to Clarence and Lucilda (Bellm) Schultz; they preceded her in death.

Also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janice Buehne, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Schultz.

She married Eugene Buehne on January 22, 1957 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland; he survives in St. Rose.

Also surviving are her children, Cindy (Ron) Yelverton of Highland, Randy (Michelle) Buehne of St. Rose, Dan (Wanda) Buehne of St. Rose, Jim (Kate) Buehne of St. Rose, Mark (Betsy) Buehne of St. Rose, Steven (Kelly) Buehne of Maryville, Vicky (Tim) Langenhorst of Germantown, and Kris (Greg) Jeckstadt of St. Rose; 24 grandchildren, J.J. Yelverton, Jordan, Megan, Olivia and Drew Buehne, Alicia and Alex Buehne, Blair Bone, Ann Richter, Jared, Jon, and Jacob Buehne, Megan Kaiser, Adam Buehne, Kassi Petterson, Kami Buehne,, Allie, Cole, Chandler, and Antoinette Buehne, Mitchell and Blake Langenhorst, Peyton and Griffin Jeckstadt; a brother, Ron (Kathy) Schultz of Trenton; and sisters, Marilyn (Harold) Meskil of Pierron and Karen (Verlin) Meskil of Keyesport.

Gerry was a homemaker and very active on the family farm. She was a member of St. Rose Church, Choir, and Ladies Sodality, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary in Breese, Meals on Wheels in Highland, Perpetual Adoration Prayer at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland. She was an avid quilter, card player, and Cardinal fan and was very active with her grandchildren and her family was most important.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 11:00 AM-1:30 PM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to Mater Dei High School, St. Rose Church, or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.

Catherine B. “Katie” Albers

Catherine B. “Katie” (Frohn) Albers, 101, of Germantown, born May 13, 1911 in St. Rose, IL returned to the light of God on March 27, 2013 to begin yet another chapter, her eternal life.

She was the youngest of seven children born to Theodore and Mary (Wilke) Frohn. She learned the early value of hard work as she grew up on the farm and when she went to work at 13 to support herself and her widowed mother.

On August 11, 1937 she married Herman J Albers and they began a new chapter in her life in Germantown where they began their family. She raised eleven children to adulthood with love and her faith in God, Marian Eversgerd of Damiansville, Alice Eversgerd of Germantown, Ronald Albers of Posey, Harold “Yogi” (Ruth) Albers of Germantown, Richard (Judy) Albers of Albers, Irene Kahrhoff of Breese, Florence “Suz” (David) Broeckling of Albers, Herman (Karyn) Albers of Red Bud, Jeanette (Edward) Broeckling of Albers, Jerry (Marian) Albers of Albers, and Gary Albers of Carterville.

Her extraordinary life of 101 years was a life of hard work and compassion. Katie was a living example of the reward and satisfaction of doing a job to the best of your ability. She was a patient and true friend to everyone she met, but most of all she was a loving and generous mom. From this love and legacy came 38 grandchildren and the love continues to grow with 52 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman on December 10, 1961; sons, Robert Albers and Gerald Albers; a granddaughter, Kim Broeckling; great-grandsons, Nathan and Conner Fischer; brothers, Henry Frohn, Bernard Frohn, Gerard Frohn, and Theodore Frohn; sisters, Josephine Gebke and Caroline Mueller; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Elizabeth (Budde) Albers; daughters-in-law, Mary Jane Albers and Beverly Albers; and sons-in-law, Franklin Eversgerd and Leroy Eversgerd.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster, Deacon Rich Bagby, and Deacon Glen Netemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown, IL.

Visitation will be Monday, April 1, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 8:00-9:30 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice, Breese Nursing Home Activity Fund, or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
