Avery Willow Deien, infant daughter of Greg and Jackie (Ratermann) Deien of Aviston, was born and died on Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Surviving are her brothers and sisters, Alex, Rachel, Chloe, and Bennett Deien; maternal grandmother, Ida (nee Deters) Ratermann of Highland; paternal grandparents, Melvin and Janet (nee Heimann) Deien of Breese; and uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Private services will be held.

Kevin J. Alberternst

Kevin J. Alberternst, 57, of St. Rose, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Alberternst was born October 2, 1956 in Highland, IL to Marcella (Woltering) and John Alberternst, Sr..

He married Carolyn Tebbe on May 23, 1981 at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose; she survives in St. Rose.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Sean (April) Alberternst of St. Rose and granddaughters, Rylee Jo and Raegan; son, Joshua (Katie) Alberternst of Carlyle and granddaughter, Lexi Rae; daughter, Kayla (special friend Aaron Buskirk) Alberternst of St. Rose; mother, Marcella Alberternst of St. Rose; siblings, Randy Alberternst of St. Rose, Sandy Alberternst of Highland, John Alberternst, Jr. of St. Rose, Laurie (Frank) Rebholz of High Ridge, MO, and Angela Alberternst of Chesterfield, MO; mother-in-law, Gladys (Knebel) Tebbe of St. Rose; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Tebbe of St. Rose, Joe (Jan) Tebbe of St. Rose, Rich (Chrysa) Tebbe of St. Rose, Dennis (Norma) Tebbe of Waxahachie, TX, Kathy (KJ) Jansen of St. Rose, and Joanie (Doug) Willis of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Alberternst, Sr.; father-in-law, Walter Tebbe; and nephews, Jeremy Tebbe and Jeremy Davis.

Kevin worked as a mine worker for Monterey Coal in Albers and Carlinville; was a former truck driver for Timmermann Milk Service in St. Rose; and as a mine worker for Strata Mine Services in Litchfield and Harrisburg.

He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Men’s Sodality, and Parish Faith Group, St. Rose Development Club, and UMWA Local.

Mr. Alberternst enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to races, camping, traveling, antiquing, helping his sons with the family business, but most of all spending time with his granddaughters.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 11:00 am-1:30 pm at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Education was very important to Kevin and memorials can be made to his granddaughter’s education fund, Mater Dei High School, of St. Rose Church and will be received at the funeral home.

Lavern R. Schmitt 58 of Summerfield died Saturday December 7, 2013 at his residence.

He was born November 23, 1955 in Highland to George “Butch” and Florine (Siegel) Schmitt: they preceded him in death.

Surviving are his brothers Herb (Ann) Schmitt of Trenton, Cyril Schmitt of Trenton, Don (Kathy) Schmitt of Summerfield, Jerry Schmitt of Summerfield.

Sister Mary Schmitt of Fairview Heights.

Many close and dear friends.

Lavern was a rental property owner, talented man in construction and mechanics and loved fishing on his property at Carlyle Lake.

Roger D. “Dodge” Rolfingsmeier 54 of Breese died Sunday December 1, 2013 at his residence.

He was born October 22, 1959 in Breese to Marcellus “Bud” and Marcella “Mart” (Poelker) Rolfingsmeier: they preceded him in death.

Also preceded in death by a nephew Clint Benhoff.

Florence C. Peters, nee Haar, 82, of Germantown, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Peters was born November 16, 1931 in Germantown to Theodore and Cecilia (Linnemann) Haar; they preceded her in death.

She married Norbert “Pete” Peters on September 20, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown; he preceded her in death on December 16, 1992.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Dolores “Dolly” Bach; brothers, Robert Haar, Lewis Haar, and Edwin ”Tracy” Haar; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Elizabeth (Kuhl) Peters; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alvin Bach, Louise Haar, Alfred Mensing Arthur Luebbers, Paul Santucci, Marcel Peters, and Leonard Peters.

Surviving are her children, Mike (Gail) Peters of New Baden, Steve (special friend Julie Deiters) Peters of Breese, Dale (Becky) Peters Germantown, Yvonne (Tim) Wolfe of Beckemeyer, Carol (Brian) Becker of Germantown, Dianne (John) Michels of Germantown, Patrick Peters of Bartelso, and Donna (Rick) Ottensmeier of Aviston; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Mensing of Germantown, Jane Luebbers of Germantown, and Mary Santucci of Racine, WI; a brother, Ted (Mary) Haar of Breese; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Haar of St. Louis, MO, Mary Haar of DeSoto, MO, and Dorothy Peters of Manhattan, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence was a homemaker and a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown.

Neil E. Wyatt, 72, of Summerfield, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Mr. Wyatt was born February 8, 1940 in Whitehall, IL to George and Pauline (Highfill) Wyatt; they preceded him in death.

He married Vida Redden on August 29, 1964 at Fort Hood Chapel in Texas; she survives in Summerfield.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Joel (Leslie) Wyatt of Cottonwood, CA and Nathan (Christina) Wyatt of Troy; 7 grandchildren, Leslie, Terry, Vanessa, Suzanna, Logan, Ethan, and Josie; a brother, Keith (Julie) Wyatt of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Janet (Scott) Reeves of New York, NY; and a cousin, Gerald Wyatt of St. Charles, MO.

Neil retired from the Highland School District #6 and was the Principal at Grantfork Elementary where he also taught 5th and 6th grade.

Member of West Gate Baptist Church in Trenton and Illinois Retired Teachers Association. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the 2nd Armored “Hell on Wheels”.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton with Rev. Paul Hooks and Youth Minister Levi Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Summerfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 10:00-11:00 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

Memorials can be made to the New Baden VFW Troop Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
