Dorothy M. Humphrey

M. Humphrey, nee Rosen, 89, of Germantown, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Aviston Countryside Manor,

Mrs. Humphrey was born July 8, 1923 in Germantown, IL to Bernard and Margaret (Korte) Rosen; they preceded her in death.

She married Kenneth E. Humphrey on December 27, 1947 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown; he preceded her in death on August 23, 1996.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two infant children; a son, Kenneth J. Humphrey; a sister, Jeanette Holtgrave; a brother Robert Rosen; a sister-in-law, Adelle Parker; and a brother-in-law, Victor Warnecke.

Surviving are her children, Mary (Laurence) Falwell of San Diego, CA, Joseph (Jan) Humphrey of Breese, Stephen (Patricia) Humphrey of Nashville, Geralyn (Carl) Huels of Bartelso, John Humphrey of North Dakota, Brian (Karen) Humphrey of Manchester, NH, and Monica (Michael) Mensing of Breese; 22 grandchildren & 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Warnecke of Sacramento, CA; brothers, Victor (Betty) Rosen of Valencia, CA and Daniel (Jane) Rosen of Highland; and a brother-in-law, Donald Holtgrave of Germantown.

Dorothy was a homemaker and a former volunteer with Hospice of Southern Illinois and the Clinton County Mental Health Association. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Altar Sodality and St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary where she devoted her time to the Pastoral Care Department.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 8:00-9:30 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Memorials can be made to Community Link or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.

Margaret C. Thole

Margaret Catherine Thole, nee Kalmer, 77, of St. Rose, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Mrs. Thole was born July 7, 1935 in Damiansville, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Wiegman) Kalmer; they preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Thole on May 22, 1977; sisters, Verena Rensing, Marcella Varel, Rita Koerkenmeier, and Ruth Wilke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry J. and Anna (Vonder Haar) Thole; sisters-in-law, Virginia Kalmer, Marie Wessel, Lucille Thole, and Henrietta Thole; and brothers-in-law, Louie Thole, Ed Thole, Alfred Thole, Ben Thole, and Lawrence Wessel.

She married Ralph Thole on June 25, 1957 at St. Damian’s Catholic Church in Damiansville; he survives in St. Rose.

Also surviving are her children, Ron E. (Jeanne) Thole of Trenton, David L. (Melinda) Thole of St. Rose, Arlene M. (James) Clark of Carlyle, Duane B. Thole of St. Rose, Dale J. Thole of St. Rose, and Randy R. (Joanie) Thole of Breese; 14 grandchildren, Angela (Corey) Richter, Julie (Jeff) Rolfingsmeier, Jennifer Thole, Michele Thole, Kim Thole, Amanda (Bill) Rauen, Kyle Thole, Stephanie Thole, Emily Thole, Bradley (Kayla) Clark, Mary Jo (fiancé Colby Beckemeyer) Clark, Zachary Thole, Austin Thole, and Karli Thole; 1 great-grandson, Wyatt Rauen; a brother, Lawrence Kalmer of Damiansville; sisters-in-law, Esther Thole of Carlyle, Janet Thole of New Baden and Victoria Thole of Carlyle; brothers-in-law, Leo Varel of Carlyle, Emil Rensing of New Baden, Hugo Wilke of St. Rose, and Jerome Koerkenmeier of Damiansville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Altar Sodality. Her lifelong hobby was quilting, and she enjoyed cooking and was very active on the family farm, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery, St. Rose.

Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 9:00-10:30 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to Community Link, Alzheimer’s Association or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Larry J. Kues

Larry J. Kues, 64, of Bartelso, died Monday, May 27, 2013 at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home in Edwardsville, IL.

Mr. Kues was born May 16, 1949 in Breese to Richard and Elvira “Sis” (Spaeth) Kues; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Kues; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Kues, Linda Kues, and Mary Jean Kreke; his father-in-law, Frank “Bud” Kreke; and a nephew, Clint Kues.

He married Karen Kreke on November 12, 1977 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso; she survives in Bartelso.

Also surviving is a son, Eric (Jenna) Kues of Germantown; 2 grandchildren, Mikaela and Jackson Kues; brothers, Robert Kues of Bentonville, AR, Gary (Pat) Kues and Allen (Mary) Kues all of New Baden; his mother-in-law, Celia Kreke of Bartelso; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wanda (Roger) Gildig of New Baden, Joyce (John) Marshall of New Baden, Don (Jean) Kreke of Bartelso, Deb (Dwayne) Brinkmann of Carlyle, Jackie (Dennis) Koelling of Bartelso, and Jim (Tammy) Kreke of Bartelso; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Larry retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved gardening, playing cards, deer hunting with his son Eric and grandson Jackson and following his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Bartelso American Legion Post 976, and was a Teamster, Local 50, Belleville.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer and Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Bartelso.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 8:00-9:30 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Memorials can be made to Mater Dei High School, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or to the St, Cecilia Church Building Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
