Alexander E. “Alex” Schrage, 78, of St. Rose, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
Mr. Schrage was born October 24, 1934 in St. Rose to Theodore and Gertrude (Kampwerth) Schrage; they preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Baby Huegen; a sister, Leora Varel, brothers-in-law, John Varel and George Wellen; father-in-law, Joseph Detmer; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Albers.
He married Judy Detmer on April 29, 1972 at St. Rose Catholic Church; she survives in St. Rose.
Also surviving are his children, Jason (Tina) Schrage of Beaver Creek, OH, Rod (special friend Jamie Holthaus) Schrage of Breese, and Lynette (Scott) Huegen of Albers; grandchildren, Arianna and Kai Schrage, Maggie, Zane, and Wyatt Schrage, Alaina and Cole Huegen, and Rhiley Holthaus; siblings, Leander (Delores) Schrage of Breese, Ted (Marie) Schrage of Pocahontas, and Bernice Wellen of Highland; his mother-in-law, Marie Detmer of St. Rose; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry (Pat) Detmer of St. Rose, Carolyn (special friend Dennis Barker) Draper of Edwardsville, Norma (Richard) Rothengass of Aviston, Butch (Irene) Detmer of Shattuc, Linda (Bob) Grapperhaus of Shattuc, Bob (Helen) Detmer of St. Rose, and Jerry (Lynn) Detmer of Aviston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alex retired from Carlisle Syntec Inc. in Greenville. He was a member of St. Rose Church and Men’s Sodality, St. Rose Development Club, past treasurer of Catholic Holy Family Society, St. Rose Senior Citizens, and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Rose Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 8:00-9:30 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or to the St. Rose Church Memorial Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
