Mary Ellen Bedard

Mary Ellen Bedard, nee Lager, 82, of Breese, died Monday, December 23, 2013 at Countryside Manor in Aviston.

Mrs. Bedard was born May 10, 1931 in Breese to Arthur J. and Agnes (Becherer) Lager; they preceded her in death.

She married Charles E. “Chuck” Bedard on December 2, 1950 in Breese; he preceded her in death on April 5, 1973.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Mike Bedard; a brother, Jerome Lager; sisters, Marcella Kaido and Loretta Donaldson; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Lager-Diekemper, John Kaido, Louis Schoendienst, Don Donaldson, Bill Nettles, Frank Becker, Ray Lager, and Dolly Keefe.

Surviving are her children, Connie Ebert of Aviston, Kathy (Mike) Zurliene of Albers, Larry (Betty) Bedard of Aviston, Don (Beth) Bedard of Breese, and Linda (Rick) Book of Breese; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Theresa Marie Becker of Florissant, MO and Margaret Nettles of Carlyle.

Mary Ellen sold Avon and Tupperware products, co-owned and operated Skelly’s Gas Station in Breese, worked as a bookkeeper at Wick’s Lumber in Breese, was a former realtor in Belleville, and while in Florida raised ostrich and worked in collections at a hospital.

She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Breese and the Breese American Legion Post 325 Auxiliary.

Memorial Mass will be Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2:00-5:00 pm and again on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 9:00-9:45 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice, St. Jude’s or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Kevin J. Alberternst

Kevin J. Alberternst, 57, of St. Rose, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Alberternst was born October 2, 1956 in Highland, IL to Marcella (Woltering) and John Alberternst, Sr..

He married Carolyn Tebbe on May 23, 1981 at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose; she survives in St. Rose.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Sean (April) Alberternst of St. Rose and granddaughters, Rylee Jo and Raegan; son, Joshua (Katie) Alberternst of Carlyle and granddaughter, Lexi Rae; daughter, Kayla (special friend Aaron Buskirk) Alberternst of St. Rose; mother, Marcella Alberternst of St. Rose; siblings, Randy Alberternst of St. Rose, Sandy Alberternst of Highland, John Alberternst, Jr. of St. Rose, Laurie (Frank) Rebholz of High Ridge, MO, and Angela Alberternst of Chesterfield, MO; mother-in-law, Gladys (Knebel) Tebbe of St. Rose; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Tebbe of St. Rose, Joe (Jan) Tebbe of St. Rose, Rich (Chrysa) Tebbe of St. Rose, Dennis (Norma) Tebbe of Waxahachie, TX, Kathy (KJ) Jansen of St. Rose, and Joanie (Doug) Willis of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Alberternst, Sr.; father-in-law, Walter Tebbe; and nephews, Jeremy Tebbe and Jeremy Davis.

Kevin worked as a mine worker for Monterey Coal in Albers and Carlinville; was a former truck driver for Timmermann Milk Service in St. Rose; and as a mine worker for Strata Mine Services in Litchfield and Harrisburg.

He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Men’s Sodality, and Parish Faith Group, St. Rose Development Club, and UMWA Local.

Mr. Alberternst enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to races, camping, traveling, antiquing, helping his sons with the family business, but most of all spending time with his granddaughters.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 11:00 am-1:30 pm at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Education was very important to Kevin and memorials can be made to his granddaughter’s education fund, Mater Dei High School, of St. Rose Church and will be received at the funeral home.

Henry G. “Hank” Peek

Mr. Peek was born November 18, 1926 in Breese Twp. to John and Theresia (Kampwerth) Peek; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, August, Gerhard, Cyril, and John Peek; a sister, Sr. Theresta Peek, SSND; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha Peek, Estelle Peek, Robert Hustedde, Francis Hustedde, Joseph Hustedde, and Charles Boeckmann.

He married Mary Ann Hustedde on September 27, 1949 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese; she survives in Breese.

Also surviving are his children, Duane Peek of Plano, TX, Donna (Rodell) Weh of Breese, Cindy Dumstorff of High Ridge, MO, and Lisa (Michael) Enright of Harvest, AL; 6 grandchildren, Holly (Kris) Hanson, Dan Peek, Kristie (Clinton) Beach, Derek (Melissa) Weh, Lindsay (Craig) Hejnal, and Hannah Enright; 5 great-grandchildren; Georgia, Kristopher, Kinsley, Camden, and Emma; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leona Peek of Breese, Arlene Peek of Aviston, Carol Peek of St. Rose, Monica Boeckmann of Germantown, Rita (Maurice) Albers of Germantown, Rose (Francis) Rehkemper of Breese, Herb (Carol) Hustedde of Breese, Anthony Hustedde of Breese, and Dorothy (Gerald) Showalter of O’Fallon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hank retired from General Motors and was formerly a custodian for the City of Breese Parks.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Breese American Legion Post 252, and the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869.

Paul B. Schulte

Paul B. Schulte, 60, of Cahokia and formerly of Aviston, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville.

Mr. Schulte was born February 11, 1953 in Breese to Arthur and Therese (Wesselmann) Schulte; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Schulte.

Surviving are his siblings, Rita (Allen) Strubhart of Aviston, Arthur J. (Diane) Schulte, Jr. of Caseyville, Henrietta Schulte of Germantown, Margie (Roger) Albers of Germantown, and Mary Ann (Mark) Thole of Carlyle; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Paul worked as a farmhand for Middeke Chicken Farm in St. Rose and formerly worked at Arrow Group Industries in Breese.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Fr. Daniel Friedman officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 8:00-9:45 am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.

Memorials can be made to the family and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home in Breese who is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth M. “Betty” Wilke

Elizabeth M. “Betty” Wilke, nee Heimann, 74, of St. Rose, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Wilke was born September 5, 1938 in Centralia to William “Bill” and Emma (Langenhorst) Heimann; they preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Joseph Wilke and David Huelsmann; and her Godchild and nephew, Matthew Deien.

She married Felix Wilke on June 19, 1957 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers; he survives in St. Rose.

Also surviving are her children, Sharon (Tom) Knebel of Breese, Deb (Roger) Munie of Pierron, Joyce (Kevin) Korte of St. Rose, and Ken (Renee) Wilke of St. Rose; 12 grandchildren, Jessica (Phillip) Hemker, Christopher “CJ” Knebel, Jennifer Knebel, Emily (Kyle) Korte, Aaron (Noel) Korte, Ashlee Korte, Michael Varnum, Ryan Varnum, Brock Wilke, Patrick Wilke, Benjamen Wilke, and Claire Wilke; 5 great-grandchildren, Cecilia Hemker, Alexa and Paige Korte, Charlee and Preslee Korte; a sister, Janet (Melvin) Deien of Breese; brothers, Virgil (Janet) Heimann of Albers and William “Bill” (Jean) Heimann of Wichita, KS; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosemary (Roland) Kampwerth of Carlyle, James Wilke of St. Rose, Florence Huelsmann of rural Breese, Ruth (Jerry) Endres of Breese, and Bill (Carol) Wilke of Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betty was the current co-owner of Wilke Truck Service, Inc. in St. Rose and was a member of St. Rose Church where she was in the Ladies Sodality, Choir, and served as Eucharistic Minister, St. Rose Development Club, and was on the Southern Advisory Board of Midwest Truck.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Rose Church with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Augusta M. “Gussie” Timmermann, nee Tebbe, 94, of Carlyle, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Mrs. Timmermann was born May 1, 1919 in St. Rose, IL to John and Catherine (Nordmann) Tebbe; they preceded her in death.

She married Joseph H. Timmermann on November 8, 1944 at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose, IL; he preceded her in death on September 23, 1991.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Becker; granddaughters, Tammy Koopmann and Ashley Koopmann; brothers, John Tebbe and Bernard Tebbe; a sister, Catherine Von Hatten; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank Von Hatten, Annie and Bill Jansen, August and Annie Timmermann, Charles and Bertha Timmermann, Henry and Mary Timmermann, Nick Timmermann, Leona and George Richter, Bertha and Leo Ratermann.

Surviving are her children, Pat (Richard) Becker of Bartelso, Clete (Charlotte) Timmermann of Beckemeyer, Joan (Norbert) Koopmann of Bartelso, Joseph A. (Joan) Timmermann of Carlyle, and Bert (Steve) Horstmann of Damiansville; 22 grandchildren, Tina (David) Winkeler, Brenda (Paul) Pollmann, Kurt (Deb) Becker, Dan (Jolene) Becker, Jason (Jaime) Becker, Corey (Holly) Timmermann, Shanna (Eric) Deiters, Pam (Justin) Benhoff, Dustin (Ashley) Timmermann, Karen (Kent) Albers, Lori (Jason) Toennies, Deanna (Corey) Tebbe, Chad (Patti) Timmermann, Dana (Jay) Szczeblewski, Kim (Keith) Richter, Crystal (Alan) Albers, Lauren Timmermann, Britt (Matt) Reisch, Kelly (Phillip) Moss, Jared (Tara) Horstmann, and Cole (Andrea) Horstmann; 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Johanna Tebbe of St. Rose; a sister-in-law, Bea Tebbe of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Augusta was a homemaker and she enjoyed playing cards and bingo and she loved to quilt.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Carlyle, Catholic Holy Family Society, Clinton County Farm Bureau and was a former member of the Carlyle Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 26, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, IL with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carlyle, IL.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 5:00-9:00 PM and again on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 8:00-9:15 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
