Galen M. Huelsmann

Galen M. Huelsmann, 16, of Aviston, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born December 3, 1996 in Guatemala City, Guatemala and is the loving son of Allan and Carol (Hegger) Huelsmann and brother of Anna Huelsmann all of Aviston.

In addition to his parents and sister, he is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Florence (Wilke) Huelsmann of Breese; aunts and uncles, Mary (Larry) Garren of Boulder, Don (Darlene) Hegger of Aviston, Ron (Gert) Hegger of Breese, Kenny (Irene) Hegger of Aviston, Dianne (George) Miller of Belleville, Rick (Janine) Hegger of Carlyle, Betsy (Ed) Eilers of Breese, Bob Blunk of Breese, and Gary (Christine) Huelsmann of Alton; special friends, Brennan Kent, Brayden Watts, and Fr. Mark McKenzie; and numerous great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David R. Huelsmann; maternal grandparents, Norbert and Dorothy (Timmermann) Hegger; an aunt, Karen Blunk; and great-aunt, Betty Wilke.

Galen was a sophomore at Central Community High School in Breese where he was an honorary member of the varsity football team, and he was also a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.

The Huelsmann family would like to extend their heartfelt THANK YOU to all who cared for, supported, and loved Galen throughout his battle over the last 14 months.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Fr. Mark McKenzie and Fr. Daniel Friedman officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 8:00-10:30 am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials can be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital 9th Floor Entertainment Fund or to the Donor’s Choice and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home in Breese who is serving the family.

Lester M. Ranz

Lester M. Ranz 87 of Aviston died Saturday September 14, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.

Her was born October 1925 in Aviston to William and Frieda (Gieseke) Ranz and the step son of Emma (Junkins) Ranz: they preceded him in death.

Her married Eleanor Scheel August 13, 1949 in Arnprior Ontario Canada and she preceded him in death July 3, 2003.

Also preceded in death by brothers Howard Ranz, Clifford Ranz, sister-in-law Elva Ranz, son-in-law Hal Gray.

Surviving are his children David (Joan) Ranz of Trenton, Lenore Gray of Trenton, Jim Ranz of Aviston, Carolyn (Gary) Smoot of Sterling, Glenn Ranz of Aviston.

9 grandchildren Tim (Jaime) Ranz, Chris, Erin, Meaghan Ranz, Philip, Justin, Jonathan Gray, Kestrel, Katelyn Smoot.

A great granddaughter Ella Ranz

A brother Richard Ranz of Breese.

Lester was a retired Dairy Farmer.

Funeral Services will be Friday September 20, 2013 at 10:00 am at Grace Community Baptist Church in Trenton with Pastor Bob Marsh officiating. Interment Trenton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday September 19 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton and Friday September 20, 2013 from 9;00 am to time of services at Grace Community Baptist Church in Trenton.

Eugene J. “Gene” Loepker, 86, of Bartelso, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

He was born August 14, 1927 in Bartelso to Bernard and Adelinda (Bach) Loepker: they preceded him in death.

Also preceded in death by a sister Cecilia Wessling, father-in-law and mother-in-law Leo and Eleonora (Huene) Jantzen, brothers-in-law Ed Wessling, Tom Jantzen, Jim Schlueter, Regi Detmer

Her married Ruth Jantzen May 14, 1969 in Flora, IL and she survives in Bartelso.

Also surviving are his children Linda Loepker of Bartelso, Landon (Charity) Loepker of Carlyle, Luke (Jill) Loepker of Beckemeyer, Leslie (Jim) Rabe of Coulterville.

3 grandchildren Emily Ripperda, Kailynne Rabe, Caden Loepker.

Sisters-in-law Mary (Brent) Heier) of Trenton, Jane (Dan) Rosen of Highland, Julie Detmer of Breese, Sue (Jim) LeRoy of MN.

Gene was a retired truck driver, logger and carpenter.

Member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Bartelso, American Legion Post 976 in Bartelso, Catholic Holy Family Society. Her enjoyed gardening and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Kayla L. Satterfield, 20, of Carlyle, born December 22, 1992 in Bellville, IL died Friday, August 30, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Surviving is her mother, Darla (Deien) Satterfield and friend Jack Webster of Carlyle; her father, Jack Satterfield and friend Karen Isaak of Carlyle; a brother Chad Satterfield of New Baden; maternal grandmother, Francelia (Wuest) Deien of Trenton; paternal grandmother, Dolores (Witt) Satterfield of Trenton; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Vincent Deien; paternal grandfather, Charles Satterfield; maternal great-grandparents, Arthur and Laura Wuest, Verena and Vincent Deien; and paternal great-grandparents, Hazel and Ike Satterfield, and Oliver Witt.

Kayla was a 2011 graduate of Carlyle High School where she was a member of the Student Council, FFA, FBLA, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Tomahawk Club, and participated on the volleyball team and school play. She graduated in 2013 from Kaskaskia College with a general Associate degree where she was named to the Dean’s List and President’s List. She was currently working toward a Bachelor Degree in Social Work at SIUE.

Kayla was currently working at the Carlyle Healthcare Center as a CNA and attended the First Baptist Church in Carlyle.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton with Pastor Mark Goldman officiating. Interment will follow in Trenton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, September 2, 2013 from 2:00-7:00 pm and again on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 9:00-11:00 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

Clarence T. “Steve” Kohnen

Clarence T. “Steve” Kohnen, 90, of Germantown, died Friday, August 30, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Mr. Kohnen was born March 28, 1923 in Germantown to Theodore and Anna (Wobbe) Kohnen; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Mary Ann, Raymond, and Lawrence Kohnen all in infancy, Vince Kohnen, Aloys Kohnen, Regina Wolbert, and Irene Kohnen; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Amanda Kohnen, Minerva Kohnen, Harold Wolbert, Louis and Regina Kohrmann, Virgil Kohrmann, Victor Kohrmann, Rosie Kohrmann, Elmer and Barb Kohrmann, Edward “Fritz” and Elsie Kohrmann, Richard and Dolores Kohrmann.

Her married Marcella Kohrmann on November 27, 1947 at Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso; she survives in Germantown.

Also surviving is his daughter, Jan (Greg) Wilburn of Germantown; 2 grandchildren, Kevin (Jamie) Wilburn and Kristen Wilburn all of Germantown; 3 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Addison and Brandt Wilburn; a brother, Ted (Dolores) Kohnen of Germantown; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marge Kohrmann of Carlyle, Bernita Kohrmann of Germantown, Joe “Fireball” Kohrmann of Germantown, Robert (Blanche) Kohrmann of Bartelso, Ralph (Janice) Kohrmann of Bartelso; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve served in the United States Army during WWII and participated in the D-Day Landing at Normandy. He learned the carpentry trade prior to WWII and utilized the training to form Kohnen-Vandeloo Construction. He then founded Kohnen Concrete in 1952 in Germantown. The company was started when Steve made a concrete culvert pipe for his own house and requests from his neighbors gave him the idea of making concrete products as a business.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Germantown Community Development, Germantown American Legion Post 325, was a former Alderman for the Village of Germantown heading the water, sewer, and gas, was a Licensed water well and pump installation contractor, Illinois Groundwater Professional Association, and Illinois and National Precast Concrete Association.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Monday, September 2, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 8:00-9:30 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Memorials can be made to the St. Boniface Cemetery or to the Germantown Fire Department First Responders and will be received at the funeral home.

The Germantown American Legion will hold services at 7:00 pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
