Roger A. Micheel, 85, of Germantown, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Micheel was born March 4, 1928 in Germantown to Joseph and Elizabeth (Eversgerd) Micheel; they preceded him in death.

He married Marie Ribbing on August 23, 1952 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Belleville; she preceded him in death on June 1, 2012.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sharon Hemker; a son-in-law, Robert Hemker; brothers, Paul Micheel, Leon Micheel, and Tom Micheel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Viola Micheel, Dorothy Micheel, Franklin Kennett, August Timmermann, Arnold Ribbing, Johanna and Cletus Wolters, Helen and Edwin “Hoppie” Holtgrave, Ralph and Louis Ribbing, Ray and Mary Ribbing, Eleanor and Marcellus Potthast.

Surviving is a daughter, Carol Hemker of Bartelso; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Gary “Art”) Luebbers of Bartelso, Kevin (Shelly) Hemker of Bartelso, Travis (Jeanna) Hemker of Carlyle, and Nikki Hemker of Breese; 10 great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Brynne, Ava, and Ashlyn Luebbers, Kyra Hemker, Dakota, Olivia, Victoria, and Isabella Hemker, and Logan Reed; sisters, Virginia Kennett of New Baden and Lilly (Clayton “Ish”) Emery of Sunrise, FL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Agnes (Marcellus “Popeye’) Korte of St. Rose, Betty (Bob) Usselmann of Aviston, and Anna Timmermann of St. Rose.

Roger retired from Scott Air Force Base as a barber after 50+ years of service and was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Germantown American Legion Post 325.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Monday, May 27, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 pm and again on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 8:00-9:45 am at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

The Germantown American Legion will hold services at 7:00 pm Monday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the Germantown American Legion and will be received at the funeral home.

Gualberd J. Emig, 91, of Trenton, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Mr. Emig was born November 28, 1921 in Trenton to Elmer and Mary (Bugger) Emig; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son Karl Emig; 3 brothers; 1 sister; 12 brothers-in-law; 5 sisters-in-law; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Agnes (Stoff) Luitjohan.

He married Clara Luitjohan on November 27, 1946 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland; she survives in Trenton.

Also surviving are his children, Eileen (Robert) Stein of Mascoutah, Gilbert (Margie) Emig of Trenton, Linda (Gerry) Richter of Aviston, Karin (Wayne) Marti of Highland, Donna (Stan Kalmer) Emig of Mascoutah, Debrah (Jim) Koerkenmeier of Carlyle, and Ronald (Karla) Emig of Mascoutah; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and he was anticipating the arrival of his 27th great-grandchild; 11 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.

Gualberd retired from farming. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Trenton American Legion Post 778, Trenton VFW Post 7983, and Trenton Knights of Columbus Council 2932.

A Memorial Mass will be Monday, May 27, 2013 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. Joseph Rascher officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton.

Visitation will be Monday, May 27, 2013 from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home in Trenton who is in charge of the arrangements.

William L. “Bill” Winkler 85 of Trenton died Wednesday May 22, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.

Wilhelmine “Wilma” B. Schroeder, 91, of Bartelso, died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at her home with her family by her side. Wilhelmine was born March 1, 1922 in Bartelso, the daughter of William and Louise (Bach) Ripperda. Wilhelmine married Alvin F. Schroeder on August 6, 1946 in St. Rose and he survives.
Wilhelmine was a homemaker, who loved sewing for her children and grandchildren as they were growing up. In her retirement years, Wilhelmine enjoyed making quilts for her family, friends and the St. Cecilia quilt bingos. She also loved playing cards and bingo, making pies and being with her family. Wilhelmine was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso and its Altar Sodality, and was also a Eucharistic Minister and belonged to the church choir for many years. She was also a member of the Trenton VFW Auxiliary and Bartelso American Legion Auxiliary.
Wilhelmine is survived by her six children: Barbara (Jim) Robke and David (Cathie) Schroeder, all of Aviston, Patricia Albers of New Baden, Mary Lou (Paul) Sutphin of Belleville, Sharon (Ken) Albers of Germantown, and Susan (Bob) Hoff of O’Fallon; fourteen grandchildren: Mike (Sharon) Robke, Lynn (Mike) Mallott, Cheryl (Tim) Heath, Angie (Terry) Becherer, Mark Albers, Robyn (Brian) Friederich, Clint (Chrissie) Albers, Kathleen (Polly Johnston) Wildhaber, Keith Wildhaber, Raquel (Craig) Koerkenmeier, Jared (Lisa) Schroeder, Elizabeth (Ryan Thole) Schroeder, Alicia (David) Hobart and Ryan (Katie) Johnson; one step-grandchild: Katie Hoff; seventeen great-grandchildren: Kaley and Tyler Robke, Cheyenne and Todd Heath, Garrett and Abby Becherer, Claire and Cami Friederich, Laney and Brandon Albers, Allison and Jacob Koerkenmeier, Lacey and Sophie Schroeder, Shawn (Audrey) Noel and Lindsey and Brett Yearian; one step-great-grandchild: Amanda Bobby; and one step-great-great-grandchild: Ethan Bobby; three sisters: Catherine Buscher of Aviston, Mary Ann Brueggemann of Belleville and Josephine Hood of Troy; one brother: Jerome Ripperda of Quincy; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Janet Ripperda and Elinor Ripperda, both of Highland, Margaret Ripperda of Pocahontas, Frank and Agnes Schroeder of Bartelso and Cletus, Dorothy and Joanie Schroeder, all of Germantown.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Todd Robke and Rhonda Albers; step-grandchild: Keli Hoff; brothers: Alphonse, Vincent, John, Raymond, Edward, Joseph and Clarence Ripperda; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alex Hood, Herman Buscher, Ruth and Virginia Ripperda, Henry and Alvina Heet, Arthur and Cornelia “Babe” Schomaker, Oscar and Frances Wiecking, Bernie Perr, Henry and Laurentine Koczur and Dolores, Edward and Henry Schroeder.
Funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer and Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Bartelso.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
Memorials can be made to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Gerald J. “Joy” Darden Jr. 78 of Trenton died Monday May 13, 2013 at his residence.

Rose M. Kreke, nee Mueller, 74 of Bartelso, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Kreke was born April 19, 1939 in Bartelso to Joseph and Mary (Jansen) Mueller; they preceded her in death.

She married Frederick “Fred” Kreke on June 13, 1959 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso; he preceded her in death on January 1, 2013.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Theresa Kreke; a sister, Sr. Agnes Mueller, ACS; brothers, Joseph Mueller, Leonard Mueller, Marcel “Bill” Mueller, and Paul Mueller; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Loretta Mueller, Teresa Mueller, Frank “Bud” Kreke, Veronica Kreke, Catherine and Martin Sutterlin, Margaret and Frank Aug, Agnes Kreke, and Victor Pingsterhaus,

Surviving are her children, Roy (Karen) Kreke of Germantown, Amy Ritter of Aviston, and Roland (Robyn) Kreke of Bartelso; 10 grandchildren, Nathan and Tom Huegen, Gina (Brett) Benhoff, Chris Kreke, Rodney and Kerry Ritter, Ben, Joe, David, and Maria Kreke; sisters, Sr. Mary Ann Mueller, ASC of Ruma and Leona (Leo) Beckmann of Carlyle; a brother, John (Mary) Mueller of Highland; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Mueller of Bartelso, Henry “Hank” (Dolores “Blondie”) Kreke of Bartelso, Joseph Kreke of Bartelso, Laurie Pingsterhaus of Germantown, and Ceil Kreke of Bartelso.

Rose retired after 30+ years as the secretary at Bartelso Elementary. She was an avid bowler and loved to quilt.

She was a member of St. Cecilia Church and Altar Sodality in Bartelso, Young at Heart Club, Catholic Holy Family Society, a very active member and Past President of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, and a former 4H Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso with Fr. Henry Fischer and Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Bartelso.

Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 11:00 AM-1:30 PM at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
