Barbara L. Varel

Barbara L. Varel (nee Beckmann) 67 of Bartelso died Thursday February 25, 2016 at her residence.

She was born March 27, 1948 in Breese to William “Bill” and Frances (Kleinekorte) Beckmann: they preceded her in death.

Also preceded in death by her Special Aunt Mary “Toots” Kleinekorte. Father-in-law and mother-in-law Alois and Martha (Jansen) Varel, brothers-in-law Tom Deerhake, Jerry Ratermann, nephew Jason Kruse, Jeremy Hemker.

She married Louis Varel November 24, 1967 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso and he survives in Bartelso.

Also surviving are her daughters Lisa (Patrick) Holtgrave of Trenton, Tammy (Darrin) Diercks of Highland, Dana (Brian) Patton of Bartelso

7 grandchildren Olivia and Abigail Holtgrave, Claire and Ella Diercks, Alexis, Jacob and Avery Patton

Barbara worked for Rockwell International for 27 years, and retired from Germantown Elementary. Barb loved spending time with her grandchildren and family and friends, attending grandchildren sporting events, crocheting and bingo.

Member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality, Catholic Knights and Ladies.

Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Monday February 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso. Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday February 28 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm and Monday February 29 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Moss Funeral home in Breese.

Memorials can be made to St. Cecilia Catholic Church or Mater Dei High School and will be received at the funeral home.

Logan Orschell

Logan R. Orschell 21 of Trenton, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on April 22, 1994. After seeing Logan for the first time, Jim and Ruth (Kussatz) Orschell instantly fell in love with Logan. They made their journey to Russia and Logan returned home with his new parents. He was adopted on June 5, 1995. He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday February 16, 2016.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Emily. Logan and his sister had a bond that surpassed any biological tie. He was blessed with the unconditional love and commitment of his family.

He is also survived by his uncle Tom Orschell, Aunt & Uncle Rita and Carl Niemeyer. Cousins Drew Niemeyer, Laura and Luke Thompson, Alison, Josh & Ryder Pate, Brian Niemeyer and Patrick Niemeyer.

Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Richard “Dick” and Bernadine (Hellmann) Kussatz, paternal grandparents Clarence “Civ” and Helen (Vahlkamp) Orschell and Grandma Jan Orschell.

In his youth, Logan enjoyed playing soccer, hockey, baseball and swimming with the Trenton Torpedoes. Logan was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America Pack 139 and had achieved the rank of Life Scout. He attended Trenton Elementary and graduated from All Saints Academy in Breese.

Logan continued his education at Mater Dei Catholic High School, where he discovered his true passion for the arts. He was active member of the concert, jazz and marching bands. Logan was a gifted musician and by unanimous vote, a piece composed by him was selected for performance at his senior year jazz concert. He also had leading roles in the plays Fiddler on the Roof, Beauty and the Beast, and Front Page while at Mater Dei..

Logan was an avid reader and also loved to cook. Most recently, he was involved with Places for People in St. Louis and was looking forward to serving as an English/Science mentor for GED students.

Funeral Service Friday February 19, 2016 at Moss Funeral home in Trenton. Deacon Glenn Netemeyer officiating. Interment St. Mary Cemetery. Trenton.

Visitation will be Thursday February 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday February 19, from 8:30 to time of service at the Moss Funeral home in Trenton.

In Lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be made to Mater Dei High School Marching Knights, or People for Places in St. Louis, MO.

Patricia A. Feldmann

Patricia A. Feldmann, nee Litteken, age 72 of Aviston, born August 1, 1943 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of the late Stephen G. and Ruth, nee Day, Litteken, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Patricia retired from the Federal Civil Service in St. Louis and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality in Aviston where she served in Special Ministry and led the Rosary on Sundays and at the nursing home. She enjoyed scrapbooking, crocheting, playing cards, and especially spending time with her family.

Surviving is her husband, Robert Feldmann of Aviston, whom she married January 8, 1966 at All Souls Catholic Church in Overland, MO; daughters, Connie Brown of Pevely, MO and Jeanette Craig of Woodson Terrace, MO; 7 grandchildren, Krystal Feldmann, Tammy Brown-Schaffer and husband Zach, Thomas Brown, William Brown, Andru Craig, Angela Carless, Ruth Hannah Carless; 2 great-grandchildren, Tristan Brown and Audrianna Schaffer; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sydney Miller of Arizona, Nancy Litteken of Kirkwood, MO, Diane Litteken of St. Ann, MO, and Janet Middendorf and Wayland of Aviston.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Romanza Miller; brothers, Stephen A. Litteken, Edward Litteken, and Ronald Litteken, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Aloys and Alvina, nee Rakers, Feldmann.

A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Fr. Daniel Friedman officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Aviston, IL.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.

Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, ALS Association, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th, Breese, IL 62230 who is in charge of the arrangements.

Doris M. Schmitt 83 of Trenton died Tuesday February 9, 2016 at Lebanon Care Center in Lebanon.

She was born may 18, 1932 in Trenton to Emil and Mamie (Drees) Schmitt: they preceded her in death.

Also preceded in death are her brothers Emil, Earl, Fred, Emmett Schmitt, sisters Edith Schmitt and Darlene Snyder.
