Mary Ann Kapp

Mary Ann Kapp, nee Draper, age 90 of Aviston and formerly of Trenton, born May 13, 1925 in Caseyville, IL, a daughter of the late Austin and Jennie, nee Leathers, Draper, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Mrs. Kapp was a gift wrapper during WWII for soldiers overseas and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Trenton and attended St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston. Mary Ann loved playing bingo and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Surviving are her daughters, Phyllis Kendall of Aviston and Rita Markus and husband Dave of Aviston; 4 grandchildren, Jeff Kendall, Jackie Foster and husband Ray, Chris Kendall and fiancé Kevin Phelps, and Jenny Kendall and friend Greg Koch; and a great-grandson, Alex Kendall.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Kapp, whom she married December 23, 1944 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, and he died April 7, 1994; a son-in-law, Willie Kendall; sisters, Opal Stull and Esther Curran; brothers, Paul Draper, Nuel Draper, Morris Draper, and Austin Draper, Jr.; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell Stull, Joe Curran, Dorothy Draper, Margaret Draper, Dolores “Tootsie” Draper, and Billie Joe Draper.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. Joseph Rascher and Fr. Daniel Friedman officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton.

Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 8:00-9:45 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

Memorials can be made to Wounded Warriors or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Ann Marie “Penny” Schlautman

Ann Marie “Penny” Schlautman, nee Almasy, age 75 of Germantown, born January 26, 1940 in Breese, a daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn, nee Woods, Almasy, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Penny formerly worked at the Carlyle Shoe Factory, was a babysitter, and worked many years as a cook at Valbo’s Restaurant in Germantown. She enjoyed sewing, stitching, and watching the Game Show Network.

Surviving is her husband James Schlautman of Germantown, whom she married November 25, 1961 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese; her children, Deb Beckmann of Germantown and Mike Schlautman and wife Tamma of Indianapolis, IN; 6 grandchildren, Cambria, Zachary, and Tessa, Kristina, Chelsea, and Gracie; 2 great-grandchildren, Dustin and Levi; siblings, Barb Otten and husband Dave of Chester, Raymond Almasy and wife Sharon of Sparta, Carol Hartmann and husband Terry of Red Bud, and Sharon Dyke of Cape Girardeau, MO; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan Schroeder of Germantown, Jacolyn Schlautman of Germantown, Jeanine Spirek and husband Larry of Breese, David Schlautman and wife Mary of Germantown, Frank Schlautman and wife Flossie of Bartelso, and Jack Schlautman and wife Pat of St. Louis, MO.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Schlautman; a brother, James Almasy; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Clementine, nee Jansen, Schlautman.

Memorial Mass will be Monday, September 21, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Monday, September 21, 2015 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown.

Tony C. Grant

Tony C. “Big T” Grant, age 49 of Trenton, IL and formerly of southern Illinois, born December 23, 1965 in Metropolis, IL, a son of Bailey and the late Norma June, nee Spraggs, Grant, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, with his family by his side.

Tony received his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and worked as a Correctional Officer at the Vienna Correctional Center in Vienna, IL. He enjoyed deer hunting, searching for arrow heads and other Indian artifacts, collecting baseball memorabilia, was a big Kentucky Wildcats and St. Louis Cardinals fan, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their events.

Surviving is his father, Bailey Grant of Vienna, IL; his wife, Judy, nee Lange, Grant, of Trenton, IL, whom he married June 17, 1997 in Gatlinburg, TN; his children, Amanda Harris and husband Justin of Elkville, IL, Kaleigh Grant and friend Jared of Vienna, IL, Cory Jasper and wife Jennifer of Trenton, IL and Greg “Pudge” Jasper and wife Casey of Aviston, IL; 5 grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, and Bree Jasper, Gracie and Claire Jasper; a special nephew, Jason Grant and wife Miranda and their children, Wyatt, Kylee, and Mason of Vienna, IL; his siblings, Larry Grant and wife Eilene of Anna, IL, Rodney Grant and wife Rhonda of Haleyville, AL, Nancy Pass of Goreville, IL, Gary Grant and Ronnie Grant both of Vienna, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald Lange and wife Diane of Stone Church, IL and Robert Lange and wife Diana of Mascoutah, IL; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Norma June Grant, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilbert “Whip” and Esther, nee Kruse, Lange.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton, IL with Rev. Mike Rucker officiating. Interment will follow in Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden, IL.

Francelia C. “Fran” Deien

Francelia C. “Fran” Deien, nee Wuest, age 71 of Trenton, born April 15, 1944 in Breese, a daughter of the late Arthur and Laura, nee Kuhl, Wuest, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Fran worked as the custodian at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Grade School in Belleville and retired from the IGA Store in Trenton. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton and she enjoyed arts and crafts, and her dog, Boots.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Deien, whom she married August 17, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton, and he died June 13, 1998; granddaughter, Kayla Satterfield; and a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margaret and John Ripperda, Donald Deien, and Larry Deien.

Surviving are her children, Don Deien and wife Lynette of Trenton, Ron Deien and wife Sherry of Albers, Darla Satterfield and friend Jack Webster of Carlyle, Cheri Hunt and husband John of Trenton, and Jim Deien and friend Caitlyn Crain of Trenton; 8 grandchildren, Caden, Blake, Brian, Ronnie, Kristen, Dylan, and Mei-Li; a great-granddaughter, Rhiley; a brother, Laurel “Corky” (Mary Jo) Wuest of Breese; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bruce Deien and wife Sandy of Highland, Jerry Deien of Marine, Betty Deien of Highland, Jackie Shurtz and husband Roger of Breese, Nancy Deien of Breese, and Jean Deien of New Baden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. Joseph Rascher officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton.

Richard J. Ratermann

Richard J. Ratermann, age 92 of Breese, born September 16, 1922 in Breese to the late Henry and Catherine, nee Feltrop, Ratermann, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

Mr. Ratermann was a self employed grain farmer. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality, 72 year member and was the last living charter member of the Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly, and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

Surviving is a sister, Olivia Landmann and husband Orville of Highland; a brother, Henry F. “Bud” Ratermann and wife Verna of Breese; a sister-in-law, Rita Ratermann of Breese; a brother-in-law, Virgil Ripperda of Trenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Sylvester Ratermann and wife, Mary Louise, Alfred Ratermann, Ralph Ratermann, Melvin Ratermann, Florentine Ripperda, Agnes Detmer and husband Ted, Alvina Voss and husband Victor, and Jerry Ratermann.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
