Alfred B. “Pete” Linnemann

Alfred B. “Pete” Linnemann, age 89 of Germantown, born October 20, 1925 in Germantown, a son of the late Henry and Josephine, nee Ripperda, Linnemann, died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Breese Nursing Home.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, nee Kohrmann, Linnemann, whom he married November 23, 1949 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, and died November 20, 2012; a granddaughter, Jennifer Haar; brothers, Clarence “Blackie” Linnemann and Lawrence “Smokey” Linnemann: an infant sister, Alice Linnemann; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence Linnemann, Agnes Linnemann, Florence Jansen and husband Richard, Marilyn Beckmann, Raymond “Bucky” Boeckmann, Edward “Artie” Thoele, Cletus “Skeets” Holtmann, and Diane Kohrmann.

Surviving are his children, Carol Ann Gorman and husband Sam, Darlene “Lyn” Haar and husband Danny, and Daniel Linnemann and fiancée Marcia Wuebbels all of Germantown; 3 grandchildren, Carrie Timmermann and husband Matt, Aaron and Ryan Linnemann; 4 great-grandchildren, Helena, Aisley, Kambree, and Lawson Timmermann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert Kohrmann and wife Clara of Albers, Mildred Boeckmann, Mary Jane Thoele, Marcella “Sally” Brueggemann and husband Sep, Roger Kohrmann, Carolyn Holtmann, Joseph Kohrmann, Jr., Joann Haake and husband Jim, and Virgil Beckmann all of Germantown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII and retired as a laborer working for the cities of Granite City and Carlyle.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, Germantown American Legion Post 325 where he served as past commander, Germantown Library Board, Laborers Union, and the Germantown and Clinton County Historical Society. Pete enjoyed woodworking and used his knowledge of the past to build and recreate miniature historical homes and businesses that once existed in the Village of Germantown.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Monday, April 20, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

The Germantown American Legion will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to the Breese Nursing Home Activity Fund, Celtic Hospice, or to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Bernita R. Kohrmann

Bernita R. Kohrmann, nee Michels, age 88 of Germantown, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Countryside Manor in Aviston.

Mrs. Kohrmann was born September 22, 1926 in Germantown, a daughter of Alphonse and Elizabeth, nee Altepeter, Michels; they preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Victor Kohrmann, whom she married July 22, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, and died August 30, 2001; a brother, Romuald Michels; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bernice Michels, Virgil Kohrmann, Rosie Kohrmann, Steve Kohnen, Louis and Betty Kohrmann, Fritz and Elsie Kohrmann, Rich Kohrmann, and Elmer Kohrmann.

Surviving are her daughters, Mary Sue Langenhorst and husband Joe, Candy Linnemann and husband Gary “Yogi”, and Vicky Kohnen and husband Dale all of Germantown; grandchildren, Rachel Varel and husband Dave, Stacy Johnson and husband Darin, Kurt Linnemann and wife Terea, Eric Kohnen and wife Jessica, and Bradley Kohnen and wife Melissa; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Oliver Varel, Tyson Johnson, Taylor Linnemann, Natalie and Benjamin Kohnen, Lexie and Brinley Kohnen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margie Kohnen of Carlyle, Joe “Fireball” Kohrmann of Germantown, Bobby Kohrmann and wife Blanche of Bartelso, Ralph Kohrmann and wife Janice of Bartelso, Marcella Kohnen of Germantown, and Elsie Michels of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernita retired as a Personnel Officer at Murray Center in Centralia and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown. She enjoyed knitting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster officiating. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown.

Memorials can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society and will be received at the church or through Moss Funeral Home who is in charge of the arrangements.

Clark E. “Eric” Gaffner

Clark E. “Eric” Gaffner, age 58 formerly of Pana, Nashville, and Breese, IL, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 in St. Rose Twp., IL.

Mr. Gaffner was born September 4, 1956 in Pana, IL to the late Max and Marian, nee Rider, Gaffner.

He married Joan Grapperhaus and they later divorced.

Surviving are his sons, Galen Gaffner of Austin, TX and Garrett Gaffner of Breese, IL; siblings, Mark Gaffner and wife Mary of Lenoir City, TN and Deb (Wayne) Auld of Nashville, IL; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Eric received his B.S. in Criminology and Psychology from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He formerly worked as a Probation Officer, Counselor, and in Car Sales.

He was a member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, IL.

A Celebration of Life gathering will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Buxton’s in Beckemeyer, IL.

John “Hans” Glueck

John “Hans” Glueck, age 82 of Breese, IL, born September 23, 1932 in Grosswallstadt, Germany to the late Alois and Margarethe Glück, died peacefully with his children by his side on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Terrace on the Park Nursing Home in Mascoutah, IL.

He married Anne Voelker on May 10, 1958 in West Orange, NJ and she preceded him in death on November 28, 2004.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Arthur Glück; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Josef and Eva, nee Wuest, Voelker,

Surviving are his children, John Glueck and wife Mary of Oro Valley, AZ and Heidi Haar and husband Curt of Breese, IL; 4 grandchildren, Daniel Glueck, Amanda, Brianna, and Chandler Haar; brothers, Karl Glück and wife Erika of Gansevoort, NY and Josef Glück of Germany; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rita Appel and husband Siegfried and Lydia Hessler and husband Bruno, all of Germany.

John formerly co-owned and operated Knotty Pine Inn and Motel in Breese, IL from 1969 to 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and their many activities. Hans was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the links with his many friends.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, IL, Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, Breese Lions Clubs where he served as past president, founding member of the Bent Oak Golf Course in Breese, IL, and member of the Clinton County Tavern Owners Association.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, IL with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese, IL.

Christine L. Holtgrave, nee Schwierjohn, age 87 of St. Rose, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Highland Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Holtgrave was born August 9, 1927 in Pierron, IL to William and Josephine, nee Holthaus, Schwierjohn; they preceded her in death.

She married Erwin Holtgrave on November 9, 1948 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron; he preceded her in death on September 1, 1993.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Heldenbrand and her husband Thomas; a grandson, Terry Holtgrave; siblings, Joseph Schwierjohn, Helen Frey, Henry Schwierjohn, Gertrude Peters, Josephine Rehkemper, Katherine Wessel, Alphonse Schwierjohn, William Schwierjohn, Jr., Clem Schwierjohn, and Agnes Schwierjohn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Anna, nee Wilke, Holtgrave; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alvina Schwierjohn, Delmar Frey, Loretta Schwierjohn, Clem Peters, Ben Rehkemper, Vince Wessel, Betty Schwierjohn, Victor and Mildred Holtgrave, Clarence Holtgrave, Eugene Holtgrave, Gervase Holtgrave, Harold Zeisset, William Holtgrave, Jr., and Helen and Greg Winkeler.

Surviving are her children, Leonard Holtgrave and wife Ruth of St. Rose, Ronald “Moose” Holtgrave and wife Arlene of St. Rose, Marilyn Wolters and husband John of Highland, Kathleen Klostermann and husband Gervase of St. Rose, Alfred “Sarge” Holtgrave and wife Diane of St. Rose, and Doris Bogowith and husband Steve of Troy; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Mary Zeisset of Cleveland, OH, Jean Holtgrave of St. Rose, Pat Detmer and husband Henry of St. Rose, Pauline Richter and husband Butch of Aviston, and Cathy Holtgrave of St. Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Christine worked as a cook at St. Rose Grade School for 8 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality, Breese American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary, and St. Rose Development Club and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and bingo, but especially loved spending time with her family.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in St. Rose with Fr. Edward Schaefer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. and again on Monday, April 13, 2015 from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

Dennis William Haas

Dennis William Haas, age 60 of Trenton, IL, died Monday, April 6, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Haas was born February 14, 1955 in Highland, IL, a son of Frank and Angela, nee Berkemann, Haas; they preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise “Missie” Dumstorff and her husband William “Moose” Dumstorff.

Surviving are his siblings, Kathleen M. Diepholz and husband Victor of Troy, IL, Frances Jean Demkey and husband Leo of Heyworth, IL, and James Haas and wife Shirley of Trenton, IL; and nieces and nephews.

Dennis graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and was an avid rock collector.

He was a veteran on the United States Navy serving from 1978-1982, formerly worked for S & J Construction in Trenton, IL and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Clinton County Historical Society, and the Trenton VFW Post 7983.

Memorial Mass will be Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton, IL with Fr. Joseph Rascher officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Trenton, IL.
